Big 10 - SEC battle royale. Loser has to forfeit all their basketball programs.
Seriously, the A-10 is better than both of these conferences this year. 2/12/2008 7:47:50 PM |

That MSU/Purdue game reminded me of some of our games in the past. Have a decent lead at the half, but it melts away fairly quickly. But Purdue actually held on. 2/12/2008 9:37:28 PM |

NyM410, the Big 10 and SEC are most likely going to have more teams in the big dance than the ACC 2/14/2008 12:34:53 PM |

^ That does not mean they are better conferences though as evidenced by the ACC once again smoking the Big Ten in the "challenge".
SEC has about 5 good teams, no great teams outside of UT. ACC is hurt because of the league;s depth. UVA would be a top 6-7 team in the SEC and Big 11. 2/14/2008 12:41:05 PM |

It's definitely an endless argument when trying to decide what major conferences are better than others, SEC has good teams and then terrible teams, ACC has everyone in the middle beating up on eachother w/ UNC and Duke on the top, Big 10 is top-heavy w/ four teams w/ 5 or less losses. However, saying the A-10 is better is a joke. And a bad one. 2/14/2008 12:56:41 PM |

Is it? Here is the current Top 100 RPI's for each conference:
A-10 11 Xavier 23 Umass 27 URI 28 Dayton 43 St. Joes 62 Temple 77 Duquesne 88 Charlotte
Big 10 13 Mich State 15 Wisconsin 29 Purdue 31 Indiana 38 Ohio State 98 Illinois
A-10 has 8 Top 100 RPI teams compared ot the Big Ten's 6.
Now the bottom 4 of the A-10 are worse collectively than the bottom 10 of the Big 10 but I could easily argue the A-10 is far more deserving of more tourney bids than the Big 10...
For comparisons sake the rest of the Power conferences w/ teams in the RPI Top 100 are:
ACC: 11 Big East: 12 Big 12: 8 Pac-10: 8 SEC: 6

Your an idiot...Look at both conferences strength of schedule, then tell me that their "RPI" has anything to do with how good they are against each other 2/14/2008 1:43:12 PM |
NyM410 J-E-T-S 50085 Posts user info edit post |
Huh? Do you even understand how the RPI works?
SOS are pretty similar b/t conferences though to answer your question. The only reason the A-10 is behind the Big 10 is really because of it's size. Sort of like the Big East being the 4th best RPI conference even though it's clearly one of the top two in the country.
Really all you have to do is look at UMass, who is 4-5 in the A-10 this year, but has a Top 25 RPI to dispel whatever point you're trying to make.
Don't get mad at me because the Big 10 blows this year.

Arguing over "which conference is better" is probably the most asinine argument in the history of college sports.
Just to let everyone know.
Oh, and as a lifelong Purdue fan, we're kicking ass!
