yeah...everytime it's scanned it shows online in a few minutes. if it's coming from CA by truck then I would assume it doesn't get scanned while in the truck lol

It says it has a scheduled update for today, I wouldn't think it would be a scheduled update if its updating in real time. Plus every time it updates it seems to be with something that happened like 5 hours before.

It left texas at 11:40 yesterday. How long would it really take to get to another update?

that just means its scheduled to get somewhere where it's scanned today.. i.e. coming off of a truck or something... they've always been updated within a few minutes on my shit so i dunno why its 5 hours behind

well i mean if it's ground that i guess you could expect another update today, since that's what the fucking website is telling you is probably going to happen

usps has the worst

there's the "processed" message and then there's the "delivered" message. no timeframe given other than 2-5 days and please allow more time for longer distances

but then again, I think USPS is the fastest

I guess I don't really know too much about how it works - does it get flown or driven? If its driven then I guess it still could have a little while till it gets here, I wouldn't think they would make the drivers go 18 hours straight.

I can tell you I dont really have first hand experience with FedEx, I think i've maybe gotten 2 or 3 things in my life where the shipper used FedEx.

I run into a lot of USPS and UPS with eBay. my last package from UPS was dead on with its tracking. I got a package yesterday from USPS and my tracking link still says "USPS has been notified the package is ready for shipment". I've dealt with DHL several times and if possible, will not deal with them again. they were horrible.

it updates when the package gets scanned, i.e. when it gets sorted--so it should update once the package gets to the next hub

If its 3 day shipping from texas, I'm assuming they would drive it not fly it?

you know what they should do is to use the GPS (I ASSUME) on their trucks as a tracking tool. Once the package gets to the hub and onto the next truck, start tracking that truck. Track it as it chugs along I-40 through texas 'n crap.

if my GPS assumption is right, everything is already in place for it

I think they have something like that but you have to pay more for it.

^ Ah okay. So it could in theory be getting to raleigh today, or would it go to somewhere like atlanta first, then another truck sends it to raleigh?

at ups, some 3-day packages can make it ground from texas and some can't--depending on where it's coming from...so it could go either way

Damnit, well I guess I'm just hoping that it can make it to raleigh today, and I can get it a day earlier.

I dont know about Fedex, but UPS has let me pick up stuff from the distribution center instead of waiting for their delivery trucks. Those instances were only after failed delivery attempts, though. Can't hurt to try though, especially like me now where UPS doesn't swing by the house till about 6pm

after a certain number of failed deliveries, that's your only option before they send it back to the original sender-

i remember it sucked in charlotte cause it took like an hour to get to the hub whenever that happened, and my mom was a teacher, and I was in school, so there was never anyone home to sign for the deliveries

i was told that with ups there has to be a failed delivery attempt before you can pick it up at the hub. i know with fedex you can call and tell them to hold it at any hub and they will do it for you, without having to have a failed delivery first

yeah they completely skipped updating my shipment for a couple days... pretty sure they just stopped the truck and played some halo on my 360 for a while, then magically it was in charlotte yesterday

ups and fedex will let you have the package held at the distribution center if you so desire

just call them and ask

or if you happen to notice that your package is in the center in raleigh, call and ask if you can pick it up if it's not out for delivery. i've done this quite a few times.

both fedex and ups are up on atlantic avenue.

Whoever said something about the GPS thing, they actually are starting to work on that. The scanners the contractors have are GPS, they just haven't made it so the public can see it. That would be pretty obnoxious, people would hunt you down and mess up your system, so they probably won't. Its bad enough when people think they have a box and make you dig through everything. It would be way worse if they actually knew where you were.

Another neat thing they are working on is putting digital cameras into the scanners so drivers can take a picture of the package when they leave it. This would really cut down on "I never got it" scams, or when there is a huge snarling dog that keeps you from leaving it.

just fyi, it said earlier that my package was on it's way out

and they just dropped it on my front steps- five minutes later i checked the site, and it was updated to "delivered and left on front steps. signature service not requested"

so they are up on their shit

holy crap, this is so true...why they even bother is beyond me, since the only thing they EVER show is something along the lines of "no data yet" until it's been delivered...wtf
