I have an LCD that seemingly works fine when it's at its max resolution (1900x1200) but when set to a slightly lower resolution it seems like part of the monitor 'smudges' the fonts and makes it hard to read because some of the letters are too thick. It's brand new also.

Any idea what's going on?

the problem is that you're fucking with the native resolution of the monitor. it will always have the best display at its maxiumum (native) res.


you can try adjusting the clear-type setting in the display properties or updating drivers, but more than likely, you're gonna have to keep it at the high res.

It's not me, it's someone else. They say the 'fonts are too small' and they can't raise the font size because it messes with some of their graphics applications or whatever.

Either get a secondary display or replace it. CRTs look pretty much the same over their entire range of resolutions because pixels share overlapping phosphors. Flat panels have rectangular and sharp pixels. There's no getting around that. If you set it to a lower resolution it'll have to scale it to fit the screen.

CRT is somehow better on this. pixels are small.

so too small or big enough but 'smudgy'?

tell them to get some glasses, sit back, and run it in native resolution like it's supposed to...
