i would assume football is our biggest moneymaker but i am not completely sure
bball is on TV a lot more just b/c of the quantity of games in a season but ticket sales are obviously football as are most other things b/c of crowd size 2/14/2008 11:41:40 PM |

no but it is grand total revenues brought in from the athletic programs and that is what i was referring to.
our crappy sports teams are not worth 42 million dollars in revenues 2/15/2008 12:28:14 AM |

Well being that revenue means the amount you take in before deducting expenses.. then yes, this is not profit. 2/15/2008 12:30:05 AM |

football is pretty much the only money-making college sport, nationwide
only a few programs, say Duke, UNC, Kentucky, UCLA, actually make money from their basketball program. 2/15/2008 2:04:11 AM |

we actually have one of the higher profit margins from basketball in the country (mostly due to remarkably low expenditures). 2/15/2008 5:12:42 AM |

Football makes a ton of money, but they also spend an incredible amount. When I was researching a paper on Title IX back in the late-90's, i think the figure I found was that the average D1 Football program lost ~$600k/year Don't know if that's still accurate, but it's certainly still true that you can't assume that just because a team or program brings in a lot of money, they actually make money2/15/2008 8:08:23 AM |

I wonder if that chart includes donations to teams/programs/athletic department. Only reason I bring that up is I am trying to figure out how the women's programs (non basketball) bring in 1.7 million. 2/15/2008 8:13:36 AM |

Well Title IX means you can't just have football and basketball teams and call it a day, or just men's sports for that matter. 2/15/2008 9:43:53 AM |
