travis barker was good for what he was and the type of music he chose to mainly play/record with blink and the aquabats. but he is a pocket drummer with a VERY small pocket plus hes sloppy :x
dont get me wrong, i think his drum parts for blink were spot on for what they needed to be, but hes nothing great.
i know im being a douche, oh well

travis barker = way overrated. how did that video of him playing on a drumpad get +3 million views? 3 million fat ugly alternative girls. not to be an asshat, but that drum battle video was just as boring.

My two favorite drummers:
Buddy Rich
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wgaD54YcXpA&feature=related
I want to see one of those badass metal drummers try that--in a three-piece suit and tie, no less.
John Bonham
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M49SXymmAW8&feature=related
Bonham displayed more talent, power, and passion in a fucking sound check than most present-day rock drummers do on their best day. Don't even bother arguing--you know it's true.

Marco Minnemann is ridiculous. he plays in necrophagist, but his best videos arent of him playing their stuff. its studio/dvd type recordings that blow me away from him.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QButbVoSP1I
and travis barker only wishes he could rep like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygY2c1KNiTs&feature=related
and then of course Thomas Lang is a beast (even beastlier imo): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9bFPsVtXgY
and thomas pridgen (currently in mars volta) is one of my favorites as well
no offense, because buddy rich was sick and one of the best drummers ever. but there are definitely several metal drummers out today that push the envelope just as far if not farther. the focus has just shifted some into things that dont appear as complicated on the surface and dont sound as impressive unless you are a drummer (which i know you are)

He's terrible in necrophagist.
The video's i've seen he just shows off and plays way too outside of the box from the simpler (the only simple) drum parts in necrophagist IE the end of Diminished to be.
I'm all for crazy drumming, but he doesn't fit well with necrophagist. 2/15/2008 1:12:45 AM |

^^ Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I'm not impressed with Carey, Portnoy, Chamberlin, and a host of others--I'm just not as impressed.
In breaking new ground, never forget the old ways. For the drummers who study and respect the masters of yesterday, the trick bag runs deep.

Portnoy is boring. He's been playing the same thing for the last 3-4 cds. 2/15/2008 1:14:55 AM |

yeah i'm not super fond of that cd that that vid comes from.
Hearts alive and the whole Leviathan cd is pretty much the greatest thing i've heard that doesn't involve blast beats. 2/15/2008 1:37:56 AM |
