Yes , I am an International student. I need to commute on a regular basis. Been driving around on an International permit all this while. Thought it would be good to know the route prior to giving the road test. 2/18/2008 3:22:21 PM |

as long as you can drive around town you should be good to go.
i wouldnt worry too much about the road test, but focus a lot on the written/visual test. 2/18/2008 3:26:43 PM |

Thank you for the reply. I have a learners permit from NC already. Do you think I would have to give another test before the road test? Sorry if I am bothering you with too many questions. 2/18/2008 3:33:16 PM |

Don't worry too much about the road test. Just treat each thing you come upon as if it's new and just as important as if it was the first time you've seen it. This is especially true for school zones, railroad crossings, etc. Make it look like you're watching out for everybody, come to a complete stop, slow down and look at railroad crossings (every last one). Keep checking your mirrors, etc.
They shouldn't take you anywhere really crazy that you wouldn't at least be partially comfortable with. 2/18/2008 3:35:21 PM |

what for the speed limit sign about 300 yards from the avent ferry/gorman intersection. it goes from 45 to 35 for seemingly no reason and they love to catch you for that. sign is sort of hidden on the right.
[Edited on February 18, 2008 at 4:06 PM. Reason : going towards avent ferry along gorman from the tryon side, not the hillsborough side] 2/18/2008 4:05:19 PM |

If the dumb blonde bitches can do it without knowing the route... I'm guessing you can too. Really, having a license is more like a right than a privilege these days, they're way too easy to get. 2/18/2008 5:42:12 PM |

it's much easier to get a driver's license in the US than a lot of country's, especially European ones. 2/18/2008 6:37:46 PM |

yeah, but I've seen some retarded ass people who couldn't even pass the written test portion. I remember seeing one guy struggling to figure out which one was stop and which one was yield... 2/18/2008 6:44:42 PM |

^i remember reading a driver survey a few months back and 87% of the people surveyed had absolutely no idea what a yield sign was or meant. 2/18/2008 7:32:09 PM |

I went with a roommate before and they took him on the same route many times.
Leave the DMV parking lot go up Avent Ferry towards campus take a right onto Trailwood take a right onto some neighborhood road on Trailwood do a 3-point turn (do NOT put any wheels in the grass/off the road or you'll fail) go back to DMV
I don't remember 100% but I think that's close. MAYBE the first few parts start with Gorman and you'd have to cross over to Trailwood

Yea, that's pretty much what they always do--in every city. Drive down a normal highway for a mile or two, make a turn into a neighborhood, 3pt turn, drive back to DMV... so yeah, make sure you know the proper way for a 3 point turn so they can't pull any bullshit about why to not pass you 2/18/2008 8:41:15 PM |

ha, when I got mine, the guy got mad at me for not slamming on brakes hard enough and forgetting to turn my signal light on before I did the 3pt turn. 2/18/2008 9:38:29 PM |
