Anyone heard anything about this? I'm stuck in class and one of the people next to me said the service was canceled tonight b/c Bobby Mills never bothered to pay the bill -- and my phone's currently dead so I can't figure out wtf is going on...

JT3bucky or anyone else who knows -- need info ASAP plz. If I get out of class by 5pm we might be able to get the Talley Business Office to cut us a check and keep things rolling

Bill wasn't paid for last semester as of 2/12. I have no other info except that the walk is approx. 2.3 miles.

are you fucking serious? jesus tapdancing christ...

I'm emailing some folks now to see if the Treasurer or the Senate Finance Chairman can get something worked out

If that doesn't work, I'll personally give a ride to anyone who needs it

AC Slater: at this point no. but the silly bastard is running for reelection with his Senate protector Mike Alston. best thing you can do is stop people from voting for them

From the Technician, Printed on 2/12/08

Quote :
" Student Body President Bobby Mills is fundraising to pay for the Red Terror Transit, which Student Government officials said is a co-sponsored project between Student Government and other groups.

"Basically, I've already written letters for the Alumni [Association], Wolfpack Club and Athletics, and I'm mailing those out this week," Mills said.

According to Mills, he is fundraising for next year, and he wants to "share the burden among all four of [the sponsoring groups]," so that each entity would be paying one-fourth of the cost.

But Peter Barnes, Student Senate finance committee chair, said $2,000 from the line item budget of former office manager Cira Mervin will go to fund the Red Terror Transit this year until Mills can raise the money.

"He is fundraising for next year, but he's also supposed to fundraise for this year," Barnes said.

According to Barnes, part of the issue is in the Student Body Statutes, which states that the Red Terror Transit is supposed to be run for football season, but Mills has also been running it for basketball season -- something former Student Body President Will Quick started.

"It's one of the most effective Student Government programs that there is," he said. "[But] we're still waiting back to hear exactly how much we owe. The line item was overextended."

Mills said Athletics has already set aside money for this year's Red Terror Transit, which it sent to Student Government, but Barnes said officials are still trying to find the paperwork for it.

"This year, he didn't go out and get all the money or didn't talk to the right people," Barnes said.

According to Barnes, there's a line item in the Student Government budget for the transit, but the Student Body President is responsible for raising the rest of the money from other sources, as it has been in previous years.

"He's doing fundraising right now, and whatever money we get back, executive operations has to pay for that," Barnes said.

It costs about $800 per men's basketball game to run the transit and about $880 to run it per football game, according to Mills.

The Red Terror Transit is canceled during the Duke game because it occurs during the University's Spring Break"

Update from the Student Body Treasurer Jason Smith:
- Transportation had been giving the invoices to Bobby Mills, and telephoned him last week telling him tonight's Red Terror Transit would be canceled if he didn't have someone pay up.
- Naturally, Bobby told no one
- Jason is sitting in the Transportation Office now trying to get everything worked out

Cross your fingers folks

Is it really that hard to walk from campus to the game? I did this for two straight years for 90% of football games and plenty of hockey games while I was in school.

UPDATE: Jason Smith (Student Body Treasurer) and Peter Barnes (Senate Finance Chairman) ran back and forth between Talley and Transportation and have gotten everything fixed -- at least for this game

Make sure to buy Jason and Peter a drink next time you see them. The Red Terror Transit is now officially running for the UNC game -- with absolutely no help from Bobby "Please re-elect me b/c I'm great" Mills

If its that big of a deal, why don't you just leave class and go check it out for yourself?

For the already laughable responsibilities a student government official has, can you really justify leaving one of your only duties unfulfilled because you were stuck in class?

I mean, if you're 25 and still in school, you've obviously missed a few in your career.

^^^
Considering I'm helping teach the class, I don't really have the luxury to leave

The better question is, "[f]or the already laughable responsibilities a student government official has," why can't Bobby Mills do his job?...

[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 5:54 PM. Reason : and I'm actually 26, I just keep forgetting to change my profile]

Doesn't the Wolfline go there anyway? I remember riding it to games over there freshman year because it stopped in the Carter-Finley park and ride.

1. Bobby Mills getting booed at midcourt.
2. A kid going NUTS in my section about people leaving early. And i quote, "IF YOU'RE GONNA LEAVE, NEVER COME BACK! DON'T COME BACK AND CHEER WITH ME WHEN WE'RE WINNING A NATIONAL TITLE IN A FEW YEARS!!!"

hahaha, good stuff
