I'm thinking maybe the Latin Quarter. Walking distance to some sightseeing as well as nightlife would be nice. What say you?

I was there over New Years. We stayed in the Latin Quarter at Hotel du College de France. It was great for the price and the location was excellent.

stay at the Tumbleweed Hotel which is the name of the second floor of the bookstore Shakespeare & Co which is also in the Latin Quarter and across from Notre Dame. All you would get is a cot next to a bookself, but its pretty cool and would be a neat experience if youre only going to be there for one night

whatever you do, avoid a hostel called hotel richard. pretty sure that's the name. the maid stole from everyone's luggage. plus it was sketch as hell in the first place.

Just try to stay close to an entrance to the Metro. It's the easiest way to get around.

Pretty much everywhere in European cities is sub-standard compared to most American hotels and even motels. Smaller beds, smaller rooms, smaller bathtubs, smaller everything. Where's the ice machine? Ha-ha, that's a good one! I've had roomier accommodations at a Days Inn than at a $300 a night place in London. So expect Paris to be even more squalid.

Yeah, the hotel I stayed at there had some weird ass policies like you left your room key at the front desk and they basically unlocked the door for you every time you came back... it bothered me.
