old one is dead

bring on the bandwagon comments.

im pretty stoked that we signed colon in a boring offseason (minus the santana nonsense). seems to be a good insurance policy on what could or could not be a season of shit for schilling.

still got a couple of players i wouldn't mind seeing gone (see jd drew and coco crisp)

exactly one month til we open against oakland in japan.

I think they ROY minimum is 130 AB, which makes Ellsbury eligible. He gets my February vote.

I will take the injuries early if thats the way its gotta be as long as we catch fire in the summer.

^^ This is one of the few times that I dont have to stay up a ridiculous hours to watch a sporting event. I've been watching this game and it has been great that it is right around lunch time here.

^^ maybe for the double, but i have never understood that logic. pitchers come off the mound fist pumping, screaming, doing whatever they want to after a strike out, and manny or bonds or someone hits one 500 feet and watches it for a few seconds, and only one is showing off or showing the other guys up. it should go both ways.

clapping their hands, pumping their first, jumping on homeplate, etc. is all acceptable when they get out of the box and run the bases. pitchers get "theirs" when they stare down a batter and show him up. celebration is one thing, showing someone up is another.

Quote :
"What's the price of being a Boston Red Sox fan?

For David Sanborn of Oceanside,CA, at least, it's about $25,000.

Sanborn was involved in a bar fight at the Grand Avenue Bar & Grill in Carlsbad on July 3, 2006, with New York Yankees fan Mario Melendez. No criminal charges were filed over the incident, but Melendez sued for damages in Vista Superior Court – for injuring his hand when he punched Sanborn.

On Tuesday, a Vista jury awarded Melendez $15,297 for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Yesterday, the jury ordered Sanborn, who hails from Massachusetts, to pay an additional $10,000 in punitive damages.

The dispute is just one more incident in a long-standing rivalry between the American League baseball teams.

Melendez testified last week that he injured his right hand on Sanborn's teeth during the fight, saying he was acting in self-defense.

“He grabbed me . . . and picked me up,” he told jurors. “I really thought he was going to body-slam me.”

Sanborn said Melendez challenged him to a fight, then sucker-punched him. According to court records, Sanborn's attorneys argued that Melendez “consented” to the fight, which lasted a few seconds, ending when Melendez punched Sanborn.

At the time, the 6-foot-1 Sanborn was 210 pounds and 38 years old. The 5-foot-7 Melendez was 260 pounds and 49.

Melendez said Sanborn was drunk and belligerent at the bar, where both men went to root for their hometown teams on television.

Although the Red Sox and Yankees weren't playing each other that day, that didn't keep the two from exchanging words shortly after Yankees slugger Jason Giambi hit an early home run against the Cleveland Indians.

The Yankees ended up losing that game; the Red Sox also lost, to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Sanborn arrived at the bar about 11 a.m. Melendez showed up about 4 p.m. with his 82-year-old father and a friend, according to court records.

Melendez said Sanborn, Sanborn's wife – a waitress at the restaurant – and two other men taunted him, yelling a profane version of “Let's go Yankees,” a popular chant in the Bronx.

Melendez, who is originally from Brooklyn, New York, said he was also singled out for wearing a sleeveless jersey of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Yesterday in court, however, the two men didn't sport their teams' colors. Instead, the Red Sox fan wore a blue shirt and the Yankees fan a red tie.

Melendez, a lifelong Yankees fan who plans to go to Yankee Stadium for three games this summer, said he was pleased with the jury's decision.

“Justice is done,” he said. “It has nothing to do with the money at all.”

I'm going to be in boston the next few days. What are the chances of scalping a ticket for a game tomorrow night? Where is the best place to scalp a ticket?

I plan on taking the subway to the kenmoore stop? I've never been to Boston before and would appreciate any insight.

Kenmore is the best stop... It's only like a block away from the Fenway area... You just have to follow the crowds up and over the Mass Pike..

I highly recommend getting there early and staying late though to really enjoy the area. Bars all around, great food and the crowds are always hilarious..

Tix are the hottest in all of baseball... stubhub has some sub-$40 bleachers up...

I would go ahead and get a ticket, but I may need to take clients out for dinner. If I end up getting a free night, I'm going to head over to that area. I love baseball and it's at the top of my list to experience a game there.

I was in Boston last summer and tried to get tickets. The best we could find outside Fenway was $100/seat. Good luck.

With the win today, that extends the winning streak to 7. Seems like it was just yesterday that they were in a losing streak. When I saw that the Sox hit 2 grand slams today, I was really hoping one of them belonged to Manny to A) get him closer to 500 HRs and B) get him closer to the grand slam record. But he's slumping pretty bad right now, yet they're still rolling right along.

BTTT

Its not over between the Sox-Rays

Quote :
"Over? Did you say over?

The bad blood from last week's fight involving Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp, left, and the Rays' James Shields is not over, in Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon's mind at least.
The Red Sox-Rays rivalry has turned into one of Major League Baseball's nastier feuds. And even after multiple suspensions for the teams' last dust-up, in which brushback pitches and punches were thrown, it's not over, Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon said.

Papelbon, who has a weekly segment on a Boston-area sports talk show, said Wednesday that the Red Sox are not finished paying back the Rays. And while he also credited Tampa Bay for the way it has stayed in the AL East race, he also didn't mince words about what the Rays can expect when the two teams meet again for a three-game series in St. Petersburg, Fla., beginning June 30.

"In my opinion, it is a bunch of bull what they did," Papelbon said on "Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight" on Comcast Sportsnet, referring to last week's brawl between the two teams. "All I got to say is what comes around goes around, man. Payback's a b----, I'll tell you what."

With first place in the AL East on the line, tempers started to flare again between the teams on June 4 on a pair of plays on the baselines involving Crisp.

After a play at second, in which Crisp felt shortstop Jason Bartlett blocked the bag, Crisp slid hard into second baseman Akinori Iwamura on a stolen base attempt. Crisp and Rays manager Joe Maddon exchanged words about the incidents later in the game.

The tempers carried over to their June 5 game when Crisp was hit in the right hip by James Shields in the second inning. Crisp rushed the mound, ducked a wild right by Shields and threw a punch, and the Rays' Jonny Gomes rushed into the pile and started throwing punches at Crisp as both benches cleared.

In all, eight players were handed suspensions and fines.

Two days later, when punishment was meted out, Maddon did not back down. "I want to be very clear: I defend everything our guys did," he said last Saturday. "I feel actually proud of the way we handled the situation that was presented."

On Wednesday, Papelbon wasn't backing down, either.

"In my opinion, and the way I feel right now, this thing isn't all settled and done," Papelbon said. "We still got to play them a few more times. And I know when we go into Tropicana things will be a little different than when went in there last time."

The Rays swept a three-game series from the Red Sox on April 25-27 at Tropicana Field.

The Rays and Red Sox have had differences since 1999, when then-Rays outfielder Gerald Williams charged the mound after he was hit on the hand by a Pedro Martinez pitch. The teams have been exchanging words, inside pitches and punches ever since.

But now, the Rays are fighting for the AL East lead, too, and Papelbon is aware that they're a team to be reckoned with.

"Those guys have a lot of talent over there. Obviously, as you can see, it's a war when we go play those guys," Papelbon said. "It's the big leagues and you got guys that can pitch over there and you got some guys that can hit, so we've got to do everything we can to stay atop of those guys and keep fending them off because they can play."
"

Should make for an entertaining series in Tampa.

Yankees fans how's DFL treating you.
