Criteria: Movies that capture the awesomeness and cheesiness of 1980's culture. Note, movies must actually be from the 80's, they cant just take place in the 80's....so American Psycho (as great as it is) doesn't count in this list. Here are a few of my picks, I know I'll add more later.

One Of The Guys =Hot chick pretends to be high school guy.
Over The Top =Stallone arm wrestling movie
Iron-Fucking-Eagle =Nuff said

^^ Airplane came out in the 70s. Anyway, even thought it was an awesome movie in and of itself, it was not particularly and "80s-tastic" or even "70s-tastic" movie.

an 80s-tastic movie, like Repub said, is a movie "that capture the awesomeness and cheesiness of 1980's culture". Airplane was purposefully making fun of pop-culture, not embracing it like other movies here - Adventures in Baby Sitting, Karate Kid, etc

Rad - The 80's needed a BMX movie and this one had it all. Hot 80's bitches with big bangs. Superstar BMXers -vs- the local kids. Romeo and Juliet theme. Grudge match. And sweet BMX action.

Thrashin - This is the skateboard movie of the 80's. Gleaming the Cube pales in comparison. You got this hardcore leather wearing skateboard gang called The Daggers clashing against the suburban skate rats known as The Ramp Locals. THEY FIGHT. THEY FUCKING JOUST ON THEIR SKATEBOARDS. THERE IS A DOWNHILL RACE. More Romeo and Juliet goings on. The fastest gets laid and the fastest gets paid when Corey wins the race, gets the sponsors, and gets up with Hook's sister. p.s., this movie is out on DVD now. YEAH!

Bloodsport - Ok, this doesn't "capture the awesomeness and cheesiness of 1980's culture", but it's a bad motherfucking movie. How many of you knew the word Kumite before this movie? NONE OF YOU, SO STFU. This movie rules #1!!!

you know, since people are listing action movies, there is only one 80s action movie that should be on this list and that movie is GYMKATA.

I knew once I saw the poster for "Only the Strong" that it came out at some point in the 90's, haha.

And it's pretty sad how many of the films on this list I own (The Goonies, The Lost Boys, The Wizard, Little Monsters, Real Genius, etc.), but I'll post some that haven't been said yet.

Stand By Me
Red Dawn
The Outsiders
Beetlejuice
E.T.
Teen Wolf

rambo 1-3
rocky 4
bloodsport
garbage pale kids
ghostbusters 1-2
that volleyball movie
wargames
cloak and dagger
that summer school movie with mr coop and all those problem kids trying to graduate
pretty much any movie that embodied kids being independent and doing their own thing was a great movie from the 80s for me.

[Edited on March 2, 2008 at 10:08 AM. Reason : does michael jackson's moonwalker video count? that shit was hot]
