This started happening a few days ago. Commercials (and only commercials, fortunately) are silent, then sound comes back when the show comes on.

Any ideas?

It's probably switching to a non Dolby sound source for the commercials and your receiver is set up to handle that differently.

If I had to guess based on the amount of info given.

Thx, but this has never happened before, and I haven't changed anything.

Audio is via optical from box to Receiver.

Sounds like the most fortuitous glitch ever! Let me know when you figure out what happened so that I can replicate.

Some of you actually watch live TV?? Other than Fox News or a sporting event, I can't recall watching anything live in the past 2 years.

DVR ftw!

most of the time it's opposite for me - commercials are louder than the HD programming

This is not a bug, it's a feature

i am not complaining

god damn people will be complete morons about anything here

I thought I might have mistakenly enabled a feature, but I couldn't find anything about it in my cable box literature.

My concern is if this symptom expands to the actual show/movie.

Never mind I'm fucking stupid.

At some point at must have accidentally hit the turn-front-speakers-off button on my receiver. I realized when my record player put out nothing that my mains were disabled.

Fixed.
