It's gotten to the point where I have to sit at the back so people don't gossip.

I am more likely to laugh at church
particularly at really inappropriate times
like, the preacher was talking about some congregation-member who tripped on a garden hose in his front yard, broke his neck and died
for some reason that just tickled the hell out of me 3/3/2008 9:37:51 PM |

actually...now that i think about it...i cry a lot at church too...
but it's not sad crying....
it's more because i'm touched by something that is said...or a song....or an event...or just the general feeling of being there with all those people...
it's a small country church in a very close knit community...
i don't know...
i guess it gives me a type of hope that the rest of my life doesn't provide... 3/4/2008 9:48:45 AM |

Livin, that pretty much sums it up for me I think. My church is the one place I actually feel at home. 3/4/2008 10:00:09 AM |

yeah...i totally understand that
I'm not exactly an ideal Christian and I know that...but I don't feel like I'm going to hell every time I leave my church...I feel like I have something to look forward to...
I live a very different life in Raleigh than I do back home so it's nice to go back to my community and my family and know that I don't always have these incredible expectations placed upon me about my ilfestyle...
I can behave and rest and relax and be completely comfortable with it, where as here, if I'm not ready to run to the bar for a long, wild night of drinking and craziness people think something is wrong with me...
I just wish I lived closer to home so I could be more involved in my church...it might finally straighten me out

lol. I was raised as an atheist and my church is about 20 miles away, so my dad is constantly nagging me about spending gas for meaningless worship and shit. I don't say too much to defend myself or anything, but I think he's got the point that pretty much nothing is gonna keep me from that place. I guess crying is kinda of a way that I worship - that's a lot of different ways like you mentioned (singing/praying/thanksgiving/etc). For me it's like something snaps inside, and I just get all screwed up internally. Usually when I leave I feel a whole hell of a lot better, like I can face the next day with a totally different look on life.
I ain't a saint either, btw.

Sometimes I cry in church when I feel really touched by something. Sometimes there are moments that I'm having an internal conflict and the lessons read in church seem to just realy tie into what I'm feeling and I instantly feel better about it and cry a happy relieved cry.
I also cried this past sunday because the prelude was Amazing Grace, and the last time I heard that song was at a funeral of a friend's so I cried during that. 3/4/2008 10:55:30 AM |
