the same as putting on a spare after a blowout? Do tire retailers put the new one on for free? Wondering if I can do it myself or if it has to be balanced/realigned afterwards.

if its a full size spare. then its the same thing (as long as the tire and size match)

if not a full size, then its no where near the same thing.

and with a question like this, i would say that there is probably no way you would be able to put that tire on yourself. i mean, there are ways, but YOU wont be able to do it. you are better off taking it to someone who can do it, pay some $$ and have it done.

and its not free unless they some how feel nice, or you have a friend do it.

unless you are asking if you can just change the blown tire out for the spare, in that case yes you would be able to do it, just jack the car up with the tools in the car and swap tires.

I realize TWW isn't the place to come for respect; I came to this forum for advice from knowledgeable people, some of whom have turned out to be complete assholes with nothing to offer beyond asinine, juvenile ridicule. if your original post made any sense at all (which it didn't) you would have received some help. i read it and had no clue what you were asking, therefore you received no help or response from me until now because you bitch that no one helped you wah wah wah. state your questions/concerns clearly and provide what year/make/model and there are knowledgable folks on here willing to help.

now to try to answer your question; putting on a spare after a blowout would be the same as putting on a full size replacement. or are you asking about a full size replacement that needs to be mounted and balanced? if that's the case, then no, putting on a spare and mounting a tire on a rim are COMPLETELY different things.

tire places sometimes will put a new tire on for free, sometimes 5 or 10 dollars a tire. if you buy the tire from them then i would say they would do it for free? not sure on that one. and you can mount a tire yourself; it will be a pain in the ass and not really worth it. also, if you're going to actually drive it on the road you need to get it balanced and unless there is some reason that the alignment would be off (i.e. wreck that caused the tire to need to be replaced) then i don't think you'd need an alignment.

a tire shop will put a new tire on a wheel for you for (usually) free if you buy the tire from them. they will also reinstall the wheel onto you car, assuming you're using the spare now and you bring the car to them.

if you're asking whether you can literally put a tire on a wheel yourself--no, it takes some big ass equipment to do it. it's not possible without tools you obviously don't have

overcharging for mounting/balancing is how tire shops make money. in our area it's not too bad but a couple of places in Raleigh wanted over $20 just to mount a tire. the most I've paid locally is about 8 dollars and a lot of places don't charge extra for it if you buy the tire from them.

heck even some of the machines have the hardest time doing a low profile tire.

i swear mounting 18s is horrible.. its like edward scissor hands except with the long tire tools (flat metal bar) instead of scissors

Yeah, I remember having some 18" low profile ones mounted one time and having to go to like 4 different stores before I found one with a machine strong enough to even do it

we've beat on 15 and 16 in tires for trailers, but I wouldn't do it for anything that needs to be balanced.

You gotta make sure you use LOTS of mounting fluid (really soapy water works too) when trying to mount low profile tires. Without that, even the strongest of machines can have a hard time.

if your trying to MOUNT a tire on that ragged cop car, you can mount the tire by yourself, you CAN do it. just need 3 pry bars and any kind of lub, i used dish soap. be prepaired to get pissed off. if you reallly want to say the 5-10 bucks. its worth it. but imo. its worth it to spend it for the shop to get it right and only take 3 min to do it to, rather than 15-20 to stretch the tire arond the wheel.
