Im trying to print from a slackware 10.2 PC to a Vista home prem. PC and I'm getting an error. Hoping someone on here can help!

Description: hp
Location: vista_pc_name
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"Unable to connect to CIFS host, will retry in 60 seconds..."
Device URI: smb://workgroup/username:password@vista_pc_name/hp
username and password are my vista/linux ID and password

trying to set it up from http://localhost:631

I can see my linux PC from vista and I can mount a samba mount on my linux PC and I can see the files in the directory on my vista pc.

But I can't print!!

printer is a hp 1315 pscxi all in one, connected to the vista PC and it is powered on, has paper and I can print to it from my XP laptop.

solved it myself.

And you people call yourself techies!

1. Navigate to the Windows Vista Control Panel
2. Go to the "Programs and Features" pane
3. Click on "Turn Windows Features on or off"
4. Turn on the LPD protocol and make sure that all desired printers are set to be shared
5. On the linux system, open http://localhost:631/
6. Click ADD PRINTERS
7. Name:
Location:
Description:
everything but name is optional
8. From the "Device:" field select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
9. In the "Device URI:" field, lpd://(name of your Windows Vista system)/(name of your printer), e.g. lpd://homepc/HomePrinter( I had to use the IP, hostname didn't work for me. Might fiddle around with that later
10 select printer manufacturer
11 select printer model
12. print test page
