i read the wallet thread and it inspired me to look in my wallet and clean it out. which really just means enter my debit card shit into quicken and make sure nothing funky is on there.
anyways, i have ANOTHER cracked license. cracked right in half, right under the STATE OF NC part. you can clearly see the DL number and the rest of the shit
are they gonna replace this bullshit for free if i bring it in there?? its been in my wallet the whole time so it can only be from the way it fits in the wallet and the fact that im always sitting on it. its only 12 bucks or whatever, but its the PRINCIPLE, YO 3/8/2008 9:30:56 PM |

mine cracked and faded too a while ago
supposedly, they'll replace it if it cracks or fades under normal wear and tear. That's not really the case though. They'll want you to pay for a dup. 3/8/2008 9:36:39 PM |

i think they only replace it for free if you got one with the crappy ink job that faded out after a couple months... but i mean, 10bucks is nothing compared to the amount of time you typically have to wait in that godforsaken line... 3/8/2008 9:39:17 PM |

good point. since its not all in one piece, i'm ASSUMING its "invalid" by ID standards.
oh well if this exact thing has happened to anyone, let me know. i gotta renew when i turn 30 anyways (6 months omfg ) so i really hate to give them 10 bucks and then 10 more bucks and wait in line twice during i guess lunchtime when everyone else is in there. or on a friday, also when everyone else has time to go there.
they need to make it 24 hours. or at least open till 9 or 10 like a normal city. fuckers. 3/8/2008 9:49:30 PM |

my first one from age 16 was one of the ones that most people on here never saw probably
the old school laminated ones before they got all fancy with it. no idea where it went or i'd scan a copy.
all the old people 25+ have probably had one 3/8/2008 10:42:43 PM |

i've gone and had mine replaced at least twice for free because shit started to fade (read: i forgot it was in my pants and washed it by mistake one too many times)
just tell them you were at a traffic stop and the officer asked you to go get it replaced since he couldn't read it. 3/9/2008 12:12:13 AM |

mine broken in the exact same place.....and im only 145lbs maybe we should sue the wallet manufacturers.
anyways mines been broken for about a year now and i still use it. take some clear tape and rewrap every couple of months.....works at check points and bars (just get funny looks at bars sometimes). I just really don't feel like throwing extra money at the state when it renews later this year and i will have to pay again.3/9/2008 12:35:53 AM |

my husband had the exact same thing happen to him and they charged him $10 to replace it. He told them what happened and they said he still had to pay the fee. 3/9/2008 12:38:29 AM |

you could always renew your license early, then you'd only have to pay once. That might be the thing to do, since then you'd only have to go to the DMV once. 3/9/2008 1:43:24 AM |
