yeah right, dont let the liberals populist mantra fool you. They will jack your taxes up just like the rich...I suppose they figure a single person making 30,000 is rich and deserves a tax hike too.
Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:
CAPITAL GAINS TAX MCCAIN 15% (no change) OBAMA 28% CLINTON 24%
DIVIDEND TAX MCCAIN 15% (no change) OBAMA 39.6% CLINTON 39.6%
INCOME TAX MCCAIN (no changes) Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250
OBAMA (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts) Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 125K - tax $38,750
CLINTON (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts) Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 125K - tax $38,750
INHERITANCE TAX (a tax of about 55% of money already taxed at least once in the past) MCCAIN: 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax) OBAMA: keep the inheritance tax CLINTON: keep the inheritance tax
NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY BOTH CLINTON AND OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet * New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already) * New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) * New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least.... * New taxes to pay for socialized medicine 3/9/2008 3:57:20 PM |

The Single making 30K and the Married making 60K are surprising to me given that they're the most vulnerable to tax increases (a $3,900 increase would easily break their financial backs). One would have thought that they would have further shifted those expenses off to the highest brackets. Then again, I wonder if they have other benefits that they may be granted. I'd like to see the sources of this data. 3/9/2008 4:07:07 PM |

Dude that fucking tax scheme would absolutely ruin a lot of people I know right now.
That married making 60k tax is a fucking RIDICULOUS increase.
You think the number of defaults on mortgages is bad right now, just wait until taxes like that get put into place. That could send a bunch of people back to living in apartments.
I'm not a big fan of deficit spending, and I'd like to see changes in spending and taxation such that spending goes down a good bit and taxation goes up a little bit (mostly through elimination of unfair loopholes that still exist that allow certain people to avoid paying a lot on their taxes). 3/9/2008 8:02:43 PM |

Now, someone making $30000 in 2008 and paying $4500 in taxes is left with $25500 in 2008 buying power. Therefore, they have less buying power under Bush's taxes than they did under Clinton's and we have the deficits as well. " |

^^ That has to be the worst math I've ever seen.
You're comparing 1999 money, then scaling up, to get the figure under clinton. ANd then taking 2008 money at the same numerical value as the 1999, NOT scaling up, to get the figure under bush.
That makes no SENSE, they're NOT equal comparisons.
That said, If this is true, my vote just changed. I had no idea Obama was purporting all of those raises (some I knew about and could stomach for other reasons).

we're funding an occupation that costs $12 Billion per Month, in Iraq alone.
why did Bush think it was wise to give tax refunds to the wealthy in the first place?
oh right. because we were going to be greeted with flowers. stay the course. adapt to win. fight 'em there so we don't fight them here. in it to win it. bring it on. mission accomplished.
at any rate only a commie pinko terror lovin faggot would dare to suggest that we stop giving those extra tax refunds.

^ The problem with that is though is that without the war, we'd STILL have a massively growing debt, and no one would have deficit-spent to pay for healthcare, social security, or to string money between here and the moon 600 times over.
The only good it does to point out the cost of the war is to show that republicans really aren't for fiscal responsibility in any meaningful way over the democrats. 3/10/2008 1:42:23 AM |

For those of you who actually want a leg to stand on regarding opposing obama's tax codes, you should focus on his universal mortgage deduction plan. There would only be a universal rate of reduction for a home, which is bullshit. the logic behind it is mostly only the wealthy are able to itemize their deductions and take advantage of deducting the interest paid on their homes.

If anyone ever truly believe they shouldn't take a raise because they will have to pay more taxes overrall, they need to stay out of this section until they go read how taxes work. 3/10/2008 11:29:14 AM |

This is the problem with left wingers--- they decry all of the advantages that the "wealthy" get and how they are the champions of the middle class, but ultimately, they end up fucking the middle class.
The taxcuts for the "wealthy" and the mortgage interest tax deduction that "only the wealthy" get is bullshit. There are far more middle class individuals and families benefiting from these than "wealthy" people, simply because we in the middle class grossly outnumber the wealthy.
Sure, the wealthy take advantage of these tax shelters as well, but politicians love to elicit emotional responses from the middle class by vilifying the wealthy. Unfortunately, once these tax shelters are taken away, it's too late for the middle class to realize that they've been duped.
The first thing that the new administration needs to do is drastically reduce spending. A good start would be to stop wasting $12B a month on a worthless occupation.3/10/2008 11:37:23 AM |

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2008-03-13-senate-tax_N.htm
Quote : | "Democrats in the House and Senate are divided on taxes. The House budget plan assumes elimination of the full roster of Bush tax cuts.
In the Senate, however, Democrats offered an amendment to renew tax cuts including the 10% tax bracket on the first $7,825 of income for individuals, the $1,000 per child tax credit, and estate tax relief. But the tax plan offered by Baucus would eat up virtually all the planned surpluses while allowing income tax rates to bounce back to pre-Bush levels, as would taxes on dividends and capital gains on stock and real estate sales.
Under both Democratic plans, tax rates would increase by 3 percentage points for each of the 25%, 28% and 33% brackets. At present, the 25% bracket begins at $31,850 for individuals and $63,700 for married couples. The 35% bracket on incomes over $349,700 would jump to 39.6%.
The Democratic plans would provide generous, greater-than-inflation increases for domestic agency budgets. " |
Keep in mind the Democrats will gain Senate seats this year. Not looking good, folks.3/13/2008 8:56:29 PM |
