So, I'm switching my major from Zoology to Creative Writing and I haven't had a foreign language since high school three years ago. I took French but would love to take Spanish since it is more practical. Any thoughts on taking the accelerated Spanish beginners course? Is it just like high school, but in a crash course style?

Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks!

I took it but I had a background in spanish from high school. It moves very quickly. When I was there it was 3 hours a day twice a week. But spanish isn't that difficult but you will have put some time in to learn the vocab because if you fall behind you are screwed. But it isn't bad besides sitting in a class for 3 hours.

I'm trying to understand, so you took French in high school, but you want to learn Spanish...by taking an advanced course? It would seem to me you would need (or it would be best) to take the basic courses first, since you don't even have the background working with spanish to begin with. Unless you're just trying to compress everything to do with learning spanish into 1 class, then I'd see some reasoning, but it'll be a bitch.

I assume your talking bout FLS 110. If you've had any spanish in HS, you'll be fine. I'd recommend taking it w/ Johnson if he still teaches it...he was a pretty cool dude.

I'd suggest FLS 105. I haven't taken 110, but you need to score a 14-24 on the Spanish placement test to get in. 105 is 101 and 102 rolled into one semester, but it's 6 credit hours. Depending on how good your French is, you may be able to get into 110, since knowledge of another Romance language is also acceptable, but I would talk to the professor first.

I took French 110 but I never had to take any placement test. The professor just asked if I had taken any French before.

Yes, I want to take the one that compresses beginning Spanish into one class...
