i didnt work much for a long time, and it really started to get boring after a while. you start to queston why you even bother getting out of bed.

i'd probably do some travelling, but then yeah, i'd use it to fund multiple PhD's.
i like learning new things, and i like being on a college campus. i'd be the perpetual student until they made me start teaching instead, and then i'd really enjoy a part-time professorship or lecturer position. 3/13/2008 1:34:12 AM |

I would not finish my degree and I would quit one of my jobs right away. The other job I actually enjoy, so maybe I would go back to it after a few months off. 3/13/2008 2:04:57 AM |

I would travel, give money to my favorite charity (SAVE), get a few degrees, sit on the board of the charity and help run it. Invest rest of money 3/13/2008 3:28:53 AM |

I would scale back how much I work now in order to keep my certification and focus on finishing school and then follow through with my plans of working for the National Weather Service. Since I can only put $5k into my Roth IRA which I am already doing I suppose there are other places to put money but the more money you have the more it costs to manage it. Winning the lottery would just give me more flexibility to do the things now that I planned on saving for anyways. As a treat I might get Canes season tickets or something. 3/13/2008 5:57:29 AM |

seeing as I've been applying places for 6 months now and still have no job, that's an interesting question
i'd probably buy a house, pimp it out, then invest half or what I had left in long term stuff, use a quarter of the leftover for spending money, and the last quarter i would use for day trading (probably take a couple classes before i did any thing big seeing as how i have no idea how to do any of that stuff)
i'd also probably take up some part time bartending job 1 or 2 nights a week 3/13/2008 6:43:28 AM |

I wouldn't tell anyone that I won, I'd set up a blind trust and invest half of it in "safe stuff". Finish my MS and then get a PhD. After that I'd start teaching. 3/13/2008 6:45:43 AM |

speaking of IRAs, now i know a real reason to keep working.... a job that has decent retirement fund matching?
if i won the lottery today, i'd stay right where my am - i think my particular place matches 75 cents for every dollar i put in, and i can put in up to 60 percent of my income (i think the 60% is the legal max for everyone). so if you actually hit the maximums and put in lets say 1000 biweekly, they will pay 750 and you're adding 3500 bucks a month (and your income goes up 1500 a month)
so pretty much, i think having a job would be worth it... if you use the job to the fullest and do it for matching funds and insurance instead of the normal salary. even if 60% is gone off the top... then you can take health and dental and life (if you pay for life) out of the rest.
then you have all your bases covered, and all the money is going to the best possible place. that way, if you fuck up your lottery thing somehow, you still have your retirement fund and ife insurance you can still go to the doctor and the dentist and all that shit.
i always wondered who the hell could afford to put 60% of their paycheck into retirement and then take out for insurance and taxes, and still afford to live off the rest. i figured it was for people who made 200k a year... but i guess its lottery winners too!] 3/13/2008 6:53:16 AM |

Don't know if I'd finish my degree.
Would most certainly get a job somewhere, probably owning my own business, and on the side, most likely collecting sports statistics and other bits of trivia. 3/13/2008 8:02:03 AM |

I'd probably start some kind of company just for shits and giggles..and to keep busy.
Of course somebody else would be around to run it when I didn't feel like it.
Otherwise, I'd buy a nice place somewhere exotic on a beach somewhere and a place in Colorado for the winter and be set 3/13/2008 8:11:40 AM |

I read an article once that told you exactly what you should do if you managed to win the lotto. One of the main things they suggested was to hire a lawyer to collect the winnings for you on your behalf. IIRC, there was still a way for interested parties to dig up the name of who won, but getting a lawyer to process your initial paperwork would avoid all the "local moron wins $300 million dollars, here's his picture and home address" news stories.3/13/2008 8:17:34 AM |

would definitely keep my job because i love it. i would take my family and close friends on a bunch of sweet vacations. pay off my house & my parents house. invest, donate to charity but i'd have to do a lot of research on which one to make sure it went where i wanted. once a year i'd walk around and hand out $100 bills to people who are being good citizens and shit.
i would try to keep it a secret though. i don't want motherfuckers coming out of the woodwork. i'd tell very close family and friends but i'd collect under a fake name or anonymously. 3/13/2008 9:34:52 AM |

If you're going to be a multi-millionaire you need to think like one. $1500 a month is chump change. You should be making more than ten-fold that amount off interest alone if you just have a few million dollars to play with.
If you had millions of dollars it would not be worthwhile to waste 160 hours a month to make <$100000 per year. Time is money and your time should be focused on managing your money and making it grow. Even if that just means researching and hiring the right people to do all the smart work for you.3/13/2008 9:43:13 AM |

I'd invest heavily and live off of the interest or whatever.
