i was just thinking about how bad rbc sucks for a new arena. its so bland and concretey and the concourse is boring and the upstairs concourse is basically unfinished. its such a cheap arena. the jumbotron and everything. mci reminds me of it but even the mci center is better.

whats your favorite?

here are mine

american airlines

staples

pepsi

least favorite?
the garden-old

well i mean that is why we are getting a new jumbotron and everything probably this offseason or the next (hurricanes, would probably happen with the RBC isn't booked if they do do it, July-ish)

jesus are you going to complain about everything

[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:26 PM. Reason : not to mention the jumbotron was top of the line when it went up ]

oh the MCI Center is far from being better, that place to so crammed in the best i can remember

just because the location sucks doesn't mean the arena sucks, that seems to be all you care about

really? everyone i've talked to, including visiting fans, thinks it's nice. it's definitely the second nicest arena in the state after the Bobcats Arena. we definitely need HD video scoreboards though.

lmao what exactly is that saying? not much at all. its better than greensboro? hahahaha congrats.

i guess the other guy hit it onthe head. im comparing it to nba areanas. nba arenas just tend to be nicer. it would be one of the bottom 10 areanas in the nba but is one of the best nhl arenas that doesn't share with an nba team.

what the fuck, its an arena that houses a hockey team

yeah they play hockey in the Bobcats Arena too, what's your point. what does being a "hockey arena" have anything to do with how nice it is. other than the banners and a few other small places, you would hardly know.

without the history, that's like saying MSG sucks because it's a hockey arena

its still a good arena

[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:35 PM. Reason : and the upstairs of the Bobcats Arena definitely isn't anything amazing, other than the open area]

The RBC Center is definitely bland, and everything is kind of squeezed in. But, due to the roof being so absurdly low, it's one of the loudest arenas out there, so I love it for that.

Anyway, I'm gonna throw in Xcel Energy Center

the thing that bugs me about the RBC is the top of the arena is way too cluttered by trying to hang all of state's and the hurricanes banners. I've heard other team's fans mention this too.

its located in the middle of nowhere and it was built around a decade ago. These arenas you guys are showing are in the middle of cities. Of course they're gonna look nice

it doesn't suck but im speaking relativity. if you ranked it with all the nba arenas it would be towards the bottom. i guess if you rank it with all the active professional areans it would rank around the middle (average) but its just not a nice arena. there is absolutely nothing visually appealing about it. and now the ftw brings it up, i cannot think of a more middle of nowehre arena on top of all that. bobcats arena is pretty nice but its not great. unless of course you compare it to the rbc.

nba simply has more money for better areans. most of the nice nhl arenas are nba areans like i said.

[Edited on March 16, 2008 at 10:42 PM. Reason : nba has the arenas.]

it has nothing to do with history or location how nice an arena looks. point and case

ugly shithole

I think the only reason they hang every NHL teams banner in there is so people can try to guess what team its for

"What the fuck team is that? Columbus? They have a hockey team? What the fuck is a Blue Jacket?"

I've seen that reaction from at least five different people

i'd much rather play in a place where i don't have to look at nhl banners (not to mention have a fucked up seating arrangement around the court) than change our banners.

let's build a smaller venue downtown! rawr!!

i want to see nc state banners. two NC banners and you can't see them b/c the hurricanes had their 10th anniversary. this makes me angry.

there are probably very few sole nba arenas. most of them are multi-purpose arenas used for both hockey and basketball (air canada center, american airlines arena, phillips arena, staples center, TD bankworth garden in boston, MSG, etc)

no we need to build one on campus. they need to just rebuild the entire campus on centinial and renovate the old campus and have 2 campuses.

also

can this be used as an arena?

The thing that is great about this is that it means that the upper deck is much closer to the ice, so the cheap seats are closer than most arenas.

b/c as a result is a less than ideal basketball arena.

look, i know we had to cheap out and share an arena w/ the hurricanes, i get it. there's no way that you would honestly not prefer to have our own arena.

I'm somewhat of the opinion that State is the entity that's cluttering up the ceiling of the RBC. Part of me would be in favor of having a banner listing our ACC Tournament Championships, a banner listing our Southern Conference championships, a banner for 1974, a banner for 1983, DT's jersey, and nothing else.

I just don't see the point in celebrating simply making the NCAA tournament. And as nice as it is to honor various great players we've had, it almost takes away from the significance of #44 hanging up there.

Of course. I'd love for State to have its own building, maybe seating like 15,000 or so, and I'd love for the Canes to have a dedicated hockey arena. I'd also love to be a millionaire.

The fact is no modern arena operates exclusively off one event. Teams share arenas as well as concerts and all kinds of other events. It's not cheaping out; we have a nice arena because we share it with the Hurricanes. It's economics.

first of all, this thread is wishful thinking. i fucking know that building a new basketball only arena is not going to happen economically. no fucking shit.

second of all, how many d1 programs share their arena w/ an nhl team? not nearly as many as don't.

clearly if you have an arena right there, you'll want to use it to hosts concerts or something, but not every arena has a god damn HOCKEY RINK in it b/c "it's economics".

I thought this thread was about your favorite arenas.

And how many schools in the country have an arena anywhere even remotely near the size of the RBC Center. The only ones I can think of are UNC and some school in Kansas City who are desperately seeking a NBA or NHL team to share the arena with.

The hockey shit does get on my nerves, and everytime I look at those international flags all I think about is Herb's basketball teams.

But we all know it doesn't matter where your home court is if your team is worth a shit. Bitching about the RBC center is dumb.
