it jumps like a white person

And it should have been taken bigger strides up that hill

This seems though like it would be more practical as a backup system to a wheeled/treaded robot than a practical means of mobility on its own. Plus, it makes that annoying buzzing sound that can cause all kinds of trouble.

^lol

I was impressed by this company...till I saw they were given a $10 million grant from DARPA. That kinda took the wind outta the sail, thought it was just someone's home project initiative to do this.

Give me $10 million and I will.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool system and all, but do you remember how the AT-ATs were taken down?

It's not practical by itself, hence why it'd be a good BACKUP motive capability when the terrain/conditions aren't suited for wheels/treads.

It won't be until we have more powerful and compact energy sources, or MUCH more efficient actuators though that we'll see any implementations of this.

^^^haha, shut the fuck up. You can't design something better than that. Some of the best engineers in the world devote their lives to coming up with designs like that. Some punk smartass on TWW isn't going to be able to out think/design them. And I am sure they have access to enough money to where its not an issue. That is the most advanced quadruped ever designed and you are claiming you can do better if you only had the money? Riiiiight.

are we going to see A10 Warthogs with grappling hooks fly circles around these? Are nerf herders going to be batmanning themselves up inside and chucking grenades inside them?.

You'd need something more maneuverable than an A10, and you could probably dress Honda's Asimo up as one of those bear things and have it swing around like batman.

you guys realize this is designed more for smaller unit special ops type forces to carry gear, not be on the front lines fighting against the brown people

think of it more like a donkey than an AT-AT

Thats a creepy sonovabitch. The shape of the body, the way its legs moved and the sound it makes - all reminded me of a Silent Hill monster.

Bigdog Attributes
(max. 50)

Strength - 40
Agility - 45
Speed - 5
Constitution - 45
Intelligence - 20
Wisdom - 30
Charisma - 0
Stealth - 0

Notes: That thing is pretty agile. I mean, if I slipped on that ice like that I would have left a pull of blood. Not to mention it doesn't even have shoes/feet. I'm assuming it can carry a fairly heavy load. But, it moves at the speed of light divided by infinity. Looks like it could probably take some serious damage and keep moving though. I'm also assuming they're going to equip it with some serious surveillance technology. I definately lacks sneakiness with that noisy motor.

If im not mistaken, that loud buzzing is the gas engine on it.

In the videos they have where it is tethered in the shop, there is no loud buzzing.

I went through such a wide range of emotions during this video. I was creeped out at first, then awed. I lold when it slipped on the ice. Then I felt guilty for laughing. Oh, and it doesn't jump like a white person, it jumps like a freaking mountain goat!
