Is there anywhere in in raleigh, semi-near State where they run ball?

I have yet to find a court where you can go and just run games, pick up and what-not.

Preferably somewhere with lights or something, I'm an alum, so I can't use carmichael anymore

any sort of info would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Carolina Pines rec, Method Rd Rec (they have free pickup on the weekend (I've played against a few guys who played for UMKC there), Exchange Park on Millbrook, the courts on Maynard in Cary have lights and decent courts, WolfCreek, etc, etc

Anyone know of a gym around here that I can join when I move back to NC that has indoor court/s? I'm still looking... Does Gold's on Six Forks/Lassiter Mill?

meh, there isnt anyone ever out at the courts now that there is an pin number you have to enter to get it.

when the old courts were out there, a lot of people would play. and it was fun.

now its all students and people that you probably dont want to play with/against if you're trying to improve your game.

millbrook exchange has some pretty good pick up games.

in the neighborhood beside centenial ridge (can't remember what it's called) on tryon they have a court. I used to drive over when i lived at C.R. and play. there were people there from time to time...

The old courts are probably locked up to prevent something that happened like on the tennis courts 4-5 years ago. Homicide/suicide.

I wish a CCW holder had been there. He would have stopped everything!

Green Road park and millbrook exchange both have good pickup games going on most afternoons. As far as a gym with bball courts, I go to fit24 on capital blvd and it has an indoor court. It's pretty cheap too. But I live on that side of the city so its close for me, not close to campus.

thanks for the info, i personally like playing outside, when the weather is nice...

i've heard exhange park, a couple times now, both here and another board, does anyone know if they have lights? ... i tend to work a little later than most people

also, what kind of comp. does godbold park, cary (the one off maynard), and exhange park, raleigh, have? since those r the 2 i've heard the most

Godbold isn't too bad, but it really depends. There are some days where I was the best player out there and some days where I was 4th or 5th option on my own team. Go a few times at either and then you can get a read when the ballers play and if you feel like you are up to it you run with them and if not find a different time to go.

I personally can't stand playing with guys who are no good or don't know the game. It's too easy to get injured playing with guys who aren't good. One of the guys I play with at my gym just sprained his ankle because some moron ran out at him on when he took a long jumper and stood underneath him instead of running through him. It's that kind of shit I can't stand and I imagine at these parks you get that from time to time.

I hate playing with terrible players too.

There's nothing worse than throwing a perfect no look pass to a wide open teammate and have it bonking off the side of his face.

I also hate playing with great players where I'm the worst one out there...I feel guilty whenever I fuck up.

I checked out exchange park, nice park, lots of activity, but basketball was non existant, only like 5 people just shooting around... i then checked out green rd. park, cuz it's near exchange... there was a ton of activity there as well, and the courts were full, but no structured games, just a bunch of kids shooting around and playinh 21 and stuff....

Does the YMCA on Hilsborough play in the evenings? and is it free?

the Y isn't free. But there are normally some good pick up games after 6PM unless there is something else scheduled in the gym (like rec league or kids).

I think if you're just gonna drive around to find a game that it will depend on the day. Laurel Hills park on Edwards Mill sometimes has a pick up game going, sometime they don't.

I usually have to get about 3-4 of my friends to go out to the back courts at carm. , but then it's really not even fun, we end up splitting up the people I came with in order for teams to be anywhere near even...then you get stuck playing with some people that just don't understand anything about pickup games...I fouled a guy that went in hard to the basket the other day, I gave him ball, and he proceeded to shoot free-throws...
