I've googled this semi-extensively and cannot find the response i'm looking for. I'm sure by now the majority of people here use gmail's imap feature. Without switching to thunderbird or ceasing to whine, is there any way to remove the default inbox and personal folders so that when I have a new message and the envelope is sitting in the task bar, double clicking it brings me to my gmail inbox instead of the unused local inbox? I was able to change the starting folder to imap/inbox so that's a small plus.

I think I could create a rule to move all new messages to that inbox, but I really don't want to do that. Does everyone just have their gmail accounts added as secondary inboxes to the pop3 attached to Personal Folders -> Inbox?

Not only to be obnoxious and save one click re:envelope, but I'd also like the desktop alerts, which only seem to function with the default inbox. (IMAP can't be set as default for some reason)

outlook has never played nicely with imap

and yeah if theres no way to change your default inbox i would use a rule to copy new messages to the outlook inbox

Apply this rule after the message arrives
on this machine only
display a Desktop Alert

works, but I still want to click the new mail envelope to pull up the message I guess I can click the display alert or are there any downsides to copying all messages to the default inbox? Other than deleting them and still having a copy remain on gmail/imap, which sucks. Time to stop whining eh
