both teams from the NCAA title game the year before failed to make the tournament the following year?


has there EVER been a year where the 2 teams that met in the NCAA final game met up again the following year in the NIT final? it could happen this year if florida and ohio state win out.

I haven't found of case of this ever happening, but I found that this is the first time since 1980 that two finalists from the previous year failed to make the NCAA Tournament.

1979 Michigan State and Indiana State met up for the national championship and in 1980 neither where in the tournament. Although back then the tournament hadn't been expanded to 64 teams, so such an occurrence was more probable.
