so yeah...basically, a small bug (a dust mite or something of incredibly small size) managed to get inside my lcd monitor and is now running around aimlessly. How the hell did it get in there? I press against the screen trying to crush the little fucker but all i get is the ripple effect of the lcd and it continues to live and run freely.....

i know that there's pretty much nothing i can do until he dies and becomes a "dead pixel" but just wanted to share my frustration

sometimes with BITS (bugs in the screen) you gotta press harder, they are hardy little buggers. if that doesn't work, you can try gently wiping the screen with a gasoline-soaked brillo pad

Name him pixel

yes, I am assuming only a male bug would be ballzy enough to sacrifice himself to make a single dead pixel.

This problem makes me think of that ants program for the iphone.

Which makes me wonder if you're SURE that it's a physical bug and not a virus you contracted or a program someone installed on your computer to fuck with you.

Great thread! Maybe you can turn it off and then it will try and crawl out the way it came in to get toward the light?

do a print screen against a white screen so you know its real and not a virus.

if it was a virus, would it show up on the print screen?

I think something just got zapped in my monitor - it just flickered as if it was turning on again

maybe pixel crawled through the internet tubes to my monitor?

i'm going to write a computer program to do this same thing, with the larger and larger resolutions of LCD displays, you can hardly distinguish a single pixel from something as small as a bug or piece of dust.

I think I have dead pixels on my screen all the time, but they turn out to be dirt particles instead
