Gonna go with the 24", 2.8GHz model
* 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme * 2GB memory * 500GB hard drive1 * 8x double-layer SuperDrive * ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory
I'd like this to not devolve into a Macbashing session, though I know I'm asking for it. I'll be primarily using it for music recording/editing, but will also use it for a myriad other media applications (which is why I'm going with a Mac).
Anyone own one of these (or know someone who does) have anything I should be aware of? Pros/cons? General advice? $2500 is a lot for me to drop right now so I want to know what I'm getting into.
Thankssss!! 3/28/2008 2:11:07 PM |

Con: Made by Apple
Actually read your post... The graphics card is weak and you can definitely find a much nicer PC for way less than $2500. Any money you save can buy whatever software you may not get with a PC instead of Apple.

They're expensive but for music/video editing they're great. I have a macbook pro and do a lot of music writing/audio editing and they work better than any software in windows i've found.
so, i dont really have any answers to your questions--but I'm pretty sure you'll like it 3/28/2008 2:16:07 PM |

I know that much money can buy a hell of a PC, but I'm somewhat jaded on PCs and have wanted for a while now to give Mac a try. I was impressed with the interface when I used that model in the store, love the all-one-unit design, huge screen, etc., and I know they're great for media apps. I've still got a PC laptop and desktop, but I'm looking for a sleek new media machine.

There is absolutely no reason to spend $2500 on that. For the same amount of money you can build a PC that is atleast 3x as good. Or you can build that exact same thing for about half the price as the Apple version.
Unluess you just really want an Apple for some reason, then drop the $2500. If you want to spend $2500 and have a totally kick ass machine, build your own PC. 3/28/2008 2:37:11 PM |

I just can't spend so much money on something when I could get something else of equal or better value for so much less. There are things I like about Apples and they definitely continue to get better, but the fact that they overprice their stuff so much so that they can spend all that extra money on marketing just erases any desire I might have to buy one of their products. 3/28/2008 2:37:38 PM |
