yeah, i guess it's not a huge loss. he started the year shooting well, but went completely cold, and played terrible defense. still.. obviously something is up for this many players to be transferring from Duke in recent years

come on, all he does is shoot 3s. that is his sole responsibility.

this isn't confirmed ANYWHERE. most members on duke forums are saying this is an april fools joke, but it wouldn't be terribly surprising. the kid can seriously shoot, but he'll struggle for serious minutes at a big time school until he can play defense.

we shall see. i REALLY thought he would play more minutes this past season though and i am pretty sure he came in thinking he was competing for a starting position, so it would make sense i guess.

so you'd call dennis horner a guard?

does it really matter in dook's offense? its essentially a 4 guard lineup and a hapless sap in the middle who sets screens and rebounds

Jesus, what about Billy McCaffrey?

Quote :
"Billy McCaffrey might have been the ideal transfer. He left Duke University amidst struggles for playing time. He found himself at then struggling Vanderbilt University. McCaffrey quickly became The Guy in the Music City averaging 20 ppg his first season and receiving acclaim as the best point guard in the nation."

And by struggles for playing time they mean he averaged 11 ppg and made 1st team All NCAA tournament on the '92 championship Duke team.

Or

Quote :
"Mike Chappell returned home to the Michigan St. Spartans in 1999-2000 after leaving the Duke Blue Devils and won a national title in his first year back in college hoops. "

haha, he wants to go to UNC. wow

i just don't even get that.. how can you play on one team and then want to leave for their biggest rival?

He's out of his mind if he thinks he'd be able to go to UNC. He's kind of idiot for transferring. He's only a freshman and expects to be playing a ton. Only a few can. He'd be better served to work on his defense, shooting consistency, and posting up to use that hook shot that he did a few times, instead of being a pure spot up shooter only. He's very long in the arms for his size and could use that to his advantage on other SFs.

^^what a joke. did he wait for the final 4 before he decided which schools he could see himself "ballin"? All in all, he's probably right and a better fit at another school.... he probably can't digest the fact that his performance was commensurate w/ the playing time......or maybe he's tired of playing 3rd fiddle to Kyle Singler. i dunno.. hope it works out

I hope he goes to Davidson. Similar academics, plus playing alongside Stephen Curry and the White Lobster for their senior year. That'd be awesome!

The freshman think Duke is awesome at first, then they realize there's like 10 hot girls on the combined campuses and bail.

P.S. There is absolutely no way Coach K would let him go to UNC anyway.

He can go ahead and cross his name off that list.

yep 2 year rule, plus coach k has to agree to sign for him which he wouldn't do.

what's this 2 year rule? is that for in-conference transfers?

Yes. In fact the Big Ten won't allow players from other programs to transfer to another in-conference school and get a scholarship. That's how much they wish to deter transferring schools within the conference. You would have to pay your own way for the rest of your college career if say you were at Michigan State and decided you wanted to go to Iowa.

That's a link to 2008, not 2009

http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?SID=910&Year=2009&ra_key=1642

Anyways, the "coach" who was quoted as saying he liked UNC isn't the coach at Mater Dei. He isn't even an assistant their....weird

king mentioned unc because he'd have several years playing with the wear brothers, his hs teammates who are both pretty incredible. i saw them all play at the high school weekend thing at the dean dome.

Seems like a classic example of a kid whose dad plopped down thousands of dollars on skills camps, private instruction and private institutions to give his little superstar the leg up on the competition (note that once upon a time, Taylor King was the #1 in this vaunted class, over Mayo). These kinds of beauty pageant parents are the leading cause of burnout in promising young athletes.

i always laughed a little every time duke would make a shot and he would be the only one standing up on the bench jumping up and down trying to make the crowd get into it, I swear I saw him do it when Duke was on the road somewhere too.

^^ good fit. With Fisher and Reynolds they have two guards who can penetrate and King will be able to spot up from outside... Plus they have better off ball one on one defenders than Duke so he can be the defensive slacker we know he is.
