my 99 integra gsr has about 105k miles. The problem is for the past week or so, I've noticed that it's harder to shift into gear when the car is first started from cold, not just from neutral into first, but also first into second, second into third, etc... The shifting gets smoother when the car warms up. As far as I know, the master and slave cylinders have never been replaced. Could that be the problem? 4/4/2008 9:48:06 PM |

actually you would have made this post months ago if that was the case. im sure ur shit had atf in it anyway.
maybe too much power shiftin the race car killed the syncros, that or u need a bigger muffler and a CAI

put it in low gear before you crank it up and figure out where your rpms match like you do when shifting without the clutch and you'll be fine. I had a Ford 3 spd that had a 2nd gear synch. going bad and I just matched up the rpms when it was cold. when the grease got hot, it was fine. if your synchronizers are real bad, you might have to double clutch it. I've got a couple of big trucks without synchronizers and they are easy to shift once you get used to them. 4/5/2008 7:36:08 AM |

forgot to mention that the transmission fluid was changed with synchromesh about 10k miles ago. So it's the syncro going bad, not the master/slave cylinders? 4/5/2008 8:42:01 AM |

Try the Honda manual tranny fluid. It's the closest thing to the origninally specified 30W motor oil that Honda used to recommend. 4/5/2008 9:44:12 AM |

should i just go ahead and get the syncro replaced, instead of keep changing fluid? 4/5/2008 9:51:10 AM |

do you remember the weight of the tranny fluid we put in there?
anyways. i dont know how much a rebuild would cost or the turn around.
price the rebuild with the parts
vs
another GSR tranny, or ITR trans. 4/5/2008 9:53:10 AM |

it was penzoil synchromesh. Supposedly, it's the same as GM synchromesh, but I couldn't find the weight online. How much do you think a new transmission will cost? 4/5/2008 10:15:17 AM |

the ITR ones go for around $1K.
the GSR ones around 400+ depending on condition.
it all depends on your time and wait on a rebuild. 4/5/2008 10:25:25 AM |

I think I'm just getting a GSR transmission. This is probably gonna be my daily driver, so I'm not gonna mod/track it anytime soon. I guess I'm gonna start looking now for a good deal. Is there any good way to see if the transmission is in good condition or not? I don't want to get screwed out of a deal. 4/5/2008 11:21:26 AM |

I wouldn't replace tranny until you know that's what it is.. I've had the same symptoms and it was the slave cylinder leaking down. For whatever reason it was much more noticeable when cold and almost impossible to get into 1st or reverse first thing in the mornings 4/5/2008 3:56:42 PM |

^yea, I think I'll go get it checked out. Does anyone know a good transmission shop in the chapel hill/durham area?
Unrelated question, my friend's 92 accord with 130k miles has weird mishifting problem. It's an automatic, and when the car goes at around 40 it just keeps shifting up and down between gears, and couldn't go faster than 45. When he shifted the car back into park or any other gear, it still shows on the guage that the car is in drive, even though the car wouldn't move when he stepped on the gas in park. Anybody knows what's wrong? 4/5/2008 4:49:34 PM |
