did anybody with digital cable recently get a crazy looking new look for the guide?

like instead of having the ABC to filter shows theres only an A and B now called "Access Menu" and "Find Shows"?

^^

The internet for one is the worst part. 1Mbps is the only option available to me, and I think there's a bandwidth cap. It cuts off on me every 10 minutes or so if the modem is plugged in longer than a few hours. Basically I have to reset the computer/modem/etc. if I want to do anything.

The TV is almost as bad. I'm paying premium for the digital channels...Only a little over a 100, most of them worthless. On top of that, I'm paying $texas for the HD selection...which is more pathetic than you can imagine. Their entire selection is less than 25 channels, and about 5 of those are HD movie channels which you have to pay even more for (I do not). The DVR is utter shit. The GUI looks like it came out of a 1991 computer that can only run DOS and 8 bit color. It has very little space to record on, and I'm constantly having to remove what little I have on there to make room for more. And don't get me started on how horrible the controls on the remote work when operating that thing...gotta wonder what drugs the designers were on when they made it.

Internet and TV + DVR run me $125/month, and that's their 'introductory' offer. It just sucks that there's no competition where I live now. I miss Time Warner, but obviously Direct TV is better than all those.

/Comcast

I'll be honest. Ever since I started unplugging my DVR once a week on Saturday (especially during the spring because of the lack of football) I haven't had a problem with it at all with Time Warner Cable. I've been doing this for 5 months now and it works great.

The new one is a piece of shit, it is 100 times slower, there is a lag for everything you do, you go to fast forward and it takes 5 seconds for it to start fast forwarding, then you press play and it takes even longer to start, the old one was fucking fine, why would they go with a new worse slower one. Me and my roommate are fucking pissed and we didn't even ask for it, it just downloaded onto the box. FUCK.

Also whenever you hit the DVR button it always brings up whatever is your 4th item down in the DVR. In the old version it would bring up what you are watching or the show after.

Sounds minor I know, but its annoying when you are watching stuff from 3 days ago or jumping between two shows and it keeps going to that.

FUCK.

technically nothing

twc opted for this version because they (with mystro) made it themselves. the older version wasn't twc so they had to pay a middleman to use it and such. now that they have their own system, they can do the programming for it themselves and give you "awesome" features like caller id on your tv among other useless things

for those that don't have it, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQI6nRIvIk8

the one thing i really hate about this new format is this. sometimes i prefer to watch a recorded show while live tv is recording (but not to the DVR...just sitting on the channel while i watch the recording) and when you finish your recorded show...live TV doesnt record like it did on the old one. you cant rewind

does that make sense to what im trying to say...sorry, its early

^it does make sense

i don't know if there's a term for it, but i like to call it "passive recording". i mentioned it on one of the threads around here at one point, but my box didn't do it either. one day fairly recently, my box had an update and now it passively records again

luck of the draw man

Here is another thing I hate, they got rid of the ability to skip forward in 15 minute increments. With the old version you could press forward(not fast forward) and jump 15 minutes ahead.

Can't do that now, so I was trying to get to the 4th quarter of the bball game I recorded, and had to sit there for like 10 minutes fast forwarding through everything I'd already watched.

FUCK.

Aye, I feel you on that one. I haven't had any issues with their cable internet, but the TV is horrible. The only HD channels I bother watching are Discovery and National Geographic and occasionally the HD version of ABC for Lost. The rest is a bunch of crap that really doesn't need to be in HD like the Food Network or Home & Garden. I really don't care about seeing each individual hair on a dog when my gf is watching The Dog Whisperer. And the GUI looks like the TV Guide channel from the mid 90s and has like a 2 second lag on any button I push.

I've noticed something similar as well. Say you're watching a show for like 20 minutes without changing the channel. And then you decide that you want to record it, so you hit record. It used to be that it would include all of the 20 minutes that you had been watching, now it just starts recording form the point when you hit the record button. Plus, like you said, it won't rewind.

the whole point behind removing the search options in this new system is to force people to watch live television.

Have any of you tried searching for shows you want. You have to go into this menu and manually type out what you want to see and then search through endless subfolders of episodes or versions to actually find what you are looking for.

Before, if you wanted to see when all the UFC shows were going to be on for that week, all you had to do is highlight the show when you are watching it and hit C to bring up search by title or B for theme. That was it.

They make it difficult on purpose. Fuck TWC!

I agree with all of the complaints in this thread but this change was the one that pissed me off the most. I called customer service a couple of weeks ago and the lady said they were still in the process of implementing changes but that she didn't know if the 15 minute increments option would ever come back I assume this is cheaper software for them because there was no reason to change the old system!

^^ good call. That is really fucking annoying as well. You also used to be able to find future airings of a show that was on live, so that you could DVR it from the beginning; and now you have to do the manual search and sometimes that doesn't work.

hands down, the lack of c option to find shows is the worst "upgrade"

the 15 minute ff is hidden...now you have to hold the ff button down and eventually it starts skipping, but it's messy and once again a bad usability "upgrade"

i also hate that i can only go 3x now instead of 4x

they've also completely gutted the episode descriptions...movies often lack stars and director information now, as well

^Well they made it more like shit.

They "upgraded" to Navigator from Passport because Passport doesnt support SDV...and rather than paying for new Passport software, why not just write your own shit...emphasize the shit.

Its thoroughly amazing that its still this bad. It would be one thing if they first launched it a couple of weeks ago, but its been running in other markets since sometime last year, and its been on new boxes in our market for a few months anyhow. Youd think that in the design process someone might say "what are the nice features from Passport that we can implement with Navigator?" Oh, and it reboots itself all the time...Ive been lucky that its only happened a few times to me, but the one in the break room at work is constantly rebooting itself...as in it doesnt even finish booting before its rebooting again.

So glad Im getting Dish installed next weekend. /rant.

it seems now in order to watch a basketball play that I have recorded you can't time it right at all if you want to see it...you have to rewind for like 10 seconds in order to watch a play that happend 2 seconds ago...

I filed a complaint with TWC like that will do anything.

Do you guys know if there has been anything in the media concerning this? I would think that if this has been used in other markets before that people would complain vehemently.

It isn't new for everyone, people who got new boxes had the software on it probably all the way back to last summer. We got a box with the new version in August and the box didn't work so we returned it and the box they gave us had the old software.

What has happend recently is that people with the old versions have received downloads with the new software.

And yes, the timing is all off now with fastfoward/rewind. it kicks it forward and back to far.

we got it sometime last week, and didn't even think to check recorded shows. but most everything continued to record, except for a three hour window from 8pm-11pm on thursday night. we missed office, 30 rock, lost, scrubs, earl..

luckily our downstairs tv had not switched over and remembered to record it all, but it was near-crisis (and not in HD! )

My other issue is that if you want to record a show, and find it in Find Shows, but it has no listings, you still can't set it to record. There's no option whatsoever.

Also, the curvy arrow button that jumped back ten seconds on the old software now takes me back an arbitrary amount of time, usually at least twenty minutes.
