Quote :
"Paramedics
What they do: Paramedics respond to emergency situations and attempt to provide the necessary medical care, whether it involves transporting patients to a hospital or treating them on the scene.
Surprising salary: $27,070. Seeing as paramedics have high stress jobs that require them to be on call and ready to save lives at a moment's notice, you might expect their mean annual salary to be higher."

Pretty much sums up why I left being a medic and went to computer geek.

My brother makes more than that at Parkwood, no doubt.

He's got his EMT-I and Firefighter certification.

it's a shit ton of work for pay that is not commensurate with the level and length of work

also, some of us are volunteers

plus, if you're happy making $30k/year, you either didn't go to college or you live in a van down by the river

no pay in healthcare is commensurate with the level of work

its not why you do it

unless you are a doctor, and some of them are quite overpaid for what they actually DO

but they did spend a lot of money/time to get where they are

salaries vary widely based on where you work

rural medics are obviously going to make less than urban medics

the medics in wilmington make more, comparatively speaking, because the service is owned by NHRMC, not the city/county. likewise, the CCU medics that work for wakemed make more than wake county medics.

35k is typical for a medic that works in wake county.
