I'll try to explain this as accurately and as simple as possible. I would like to plug in the sound from my computer into the digital coaxial into my receiver. I would buy a cable for this but I can't seem to find one that has a 3.5mm jack on the other end, however, i have a regular RCA cable that has a 3.55mm at the end and a RCA male jack on the other end. Can I just use this cable? As far as i'm concerned is in this case a cable is just a cable and it should still work since its not split, correct? Let me know if i'm flawed here.

Also, I want to make sure digital output is turned on my PC, but I'm using Vista and the "digital output" box in the mixer settings isn't where i used to see it. Does anyone know where I can find it? My computer uses sigmatel high defintion audio, so i feel it does do digital out.

How do you know your computer had digital coaxial out? It may just have optical.

But, you should see settings for it in the Sound control panel.

digital coaxial outputs are almost never 3.5mm jacks... i don't think i've ever seen one that way.

are you sure it's not just a normal analog output?

My laptop's digital out is optical and it's in the same port as my earphone outlet.

Yes I realize that. Can't say I've ever seen a coax digital out on a laptop. Then again I'm sure someone has done it.

I was going to ask why my 3.5mm s/pdif -> mono RCA cable wasn't producing any sound, but then I realized the port was indeed optical and I've since ordered a minitoslink cable from monoprice.

Is Creative the only company that has 3.5mm digital coax ports? I always remember having that extra spot on my SBLive Audigy 2 and after googling for a couple of hours it seems most shared ports on laptops are optical.

on a related note, I have a subwoofer and satellite speaker set up that I used to use for my desktop computer that I want to run through my receiver if possible. It is a Logitech X-240, just like this: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-X-240-2-1-Speakers-Black/dp/B000MDZWUS

I was hoping to use this subwoofer (and maybe speakers) to supplement my current stereo setup. Eventually I am going to buy a whole home theater system, but if I can buy some time before doing so with something collecting dust in my closet, why not?

There is a 3.5mm line coming out of the subwoofer, can I hook up an RCA adapter to this line and use the sub on my current receiver?
