to all folks on here that have a tendency to drink WAY too much on a regular basis.

when your liver decides to say fuck you, you have the tendency to bleed....a lot.

your liver makes a lot of your clotting factors.

and when you fdgb (fall down go boom) and hit your head for the 2nd time in 2 weeks you start bleeding under your skull. This shoves your brain over and smushes it into the other side of your skull causing you to have seizures and lapse into a coma. This earns you a really expensive emergency brain surgery. During this surgery you could and probably will bleed upwards of ONE LITER OF BLOOD. Brain surgery shouldnt cause THIS much bleeding.

liver failure makes you pee orange. makes your lung goo orange. Even the stuff oozing through your head bandages is.....orange. And your eyes turn day glo orange.

not good

think about that the next time you drink so much you black out

ps if you dont die from bleeding in your skull.... you get to experience the terrifying joy of a GI bleed.

Thats where you puke and shit massive amounts of blood, and thats the one smell that can make the most seasoned nurses dry heave and puke

icterus (the "yellow eye") is one of the first signs of elevated bilirubin.

Jaundice (yellowing of the skin) comes a little later.

The very first thing you can see, even before the eyes, is yellowing of the tympanic membrane in the ear.

Incidentally, if alcohol's the only cause of your liver problems, then we're talking serious drinking.

You have to be down to about 10% of your liver function before you get symptomatic.

The doctor told me a couple of years ago that something was off in my liver and I should quit drinking.

I didn't.

And I haven't been back to the doctor

More than a six-pack a day and you're moving in the wrong direction, but there's no really good answer. The best answer would be to limit yourself to one to two drinks per day (same as recommended for the heart).

...you should probably follow up on that. Liver disease is no joke, and once you hit the end of it there's no good treatment aside from trying to get a transplant.

I think the results were skewed

The appointment was the day after Halloween.

Which is my second favorite drinking holiday after St. Patrick's Day.

hahaha Fermat and I are like, "Oh shit, are we dying?"

^while it's possible that you could have just had an acute alcoholic hepatitis from binge drinking that then resolved on its own, I'd still strongly recommend you get that checked again just to clear yourself.

i've drank way way WAYYY too much over the last three years. went through a pint of whiskey a night for a while and stepped up and down from there till recently. I'm pretty sure I got the DTs. Shaking and paranoia. it was exceedingly terrible. worst two weeks of my life.

no shes like a doctor or nurse or whatever, she posts something to let us know that all the time

not intentionally, just a lot of her stories involve her job. which is to be expected in that line of work, i guess. seems like you'd see crazy shit all the time.

im wondering how often people get shot in the head, and the people bring in pieces of brain in a plastic bag. always wondered about that since i read about the kennedy headshot

nah, my liver is peachy

but my comatose post op yesterday has endstage liver disease

i cant blame him too much for drinking though, he's a vet.

and getting blindingly pass out drunk is about the only thing that will make the intrusive combat images go away.

and apex, hey have fun, enjoy life, but end stage liver disease is a pretty shitty and miserable way to go.

maybe you would enjoy puking up blood. to each his own

I was putting in ET tubes before you got your first pube. DO NOT lecture me on medical issues..

Besides.. I've survived cancer.. I think I can handle a little liver problem.

hey, you are the one that came in my thread and acted like a choad

my thread i reserve the right to say whatever i want.

but since you are so clearly the voice of maturity and wisdom you know there is a difference between
"enjoying" life and shotgunning a six pack just to get a buzz

and just so im not a total bitch this morning here is the obligatory congrats on remission

i hope that when your time comes you pass quickly and painlessly and not struggling to breathe or even move due to the massive amounts of ascites fluids.

yeah, we all die

but if i am going to die let it be doing something i love, or from a cancer i couldnt have prevented.

no one should have to die a slow miserable death from some chronic disease.

i certainly dont want to die from some shitty disease because of some very poor decisions i made during my life

so you know, if just one person gets a wakeup call from a gruesome sad story, well i can put up with choads like you

what do you define as a lot? and for how long? if it was only for a year or two i think you just get reversible fatty liver...and if you stopped completely you should be totally fine now.

Drinking heavily is never good for your health.

That's the GREAT thing about this country.. I can.. if I want.. drink myself into a drunek stupor every night and die of some horrible kidney/liver malfunction.. YOU on the other hand.. Can eat/live healthy, live to a hundred but not know your name or who you are for your last 20 years.
