I have felt really stressed, frazzled, and generally out of it. Sometimes I literally feel a weight on my shoulders, and don't know how I will go on.
I've had a lot of bad "vibes" coming at me from people, anger, resentment, bitterness.
Other people around me give vibes of being sad or depressed.
Last night I met someone who told me she practiced Transcendental Meditation, or TM. She said it had really opened up her world to her, and that she feels almost reborn. She says there is a place to take TM classes around here.
I tried talking to my girlfriend about finding answers from "nontraditional" sources, and she told me we should start doing Kabalah together. Does anyone know about that? All I've heard about it is wearing a red string on your wrist.
I just need to find my peace 4/13/2008 10:36:43 PM |

Quote : | ": Surya namaskara is a common sequence of Hatha yoga asanas. This sequence of movements and poses can be practised on varying levels of awareness, ranging from that of physical exercise in various styles, to a complete sadhana which incorporates asana, pranayama, mantra and chakra meditation.
The physical base of the practice links together twelve asanas in a dynamically performed series. These asanas are ordered so that they alternately stretch the spine backwards and forwards. When performed in the usual way, each asana is moved into with alternate inhalation and exhalation (except for the sixth asana where the breath is held in external suspension). A full round of Surya namaskara is considered to be two sets of the twelve poses with a change in the second set to moving the opposite leg first through the series." |

seriously yo, meditation is easy and great benefits can be derived from it
I do all my meditation to music
just load up a playlist, lie down on the floor, and concentrate on the music, thinking about absolutely nothing and returning to the music whenever you find your mind wandering
after a few minutes something will start to happen...it's really relaxing and clears one's mind 4/13/2008 11:15:42 PM |

did you take classes or get a book?
The girl last night telling me about this said she took Transcendental Meditation classes, the same as The Beatles.
She also said my shockras werent in balance, and that she could give me therapy on that. I'm trying to google where catholicism stands on this kind of stuff 4/13/2008 11:17:45 PM |

^^ nah I just heard about it from my hippie Buddhist friend it's quite easy to learn how to meditate, and what meditation is about...but it's very hard to master the skill, i.e. to go more than a few seconds without thinking
^that's pretty baller, man...good luck with the rest of the semester

as for you aaronburro, why do you consistently try to make us all think you are a complete fucking jackass? We already know how fucking awkward you are when it comes to women given you cant tell an asshole from a cunt. Do you think your comment was funny? It wasn't. I'm not irate at how disrespectful that was as much as I'm irate about how completely shitty a person you are in general, and how clearly that comes across in your posting. If you want to continue to be an unhelpful, unfunny, witless piece of shit, hey man, thats your choice. But try and keep it out of my threads. 4/13/2008 11:36:42 PM |

Well if you want to meditate without pissing off jesus just do the focusing on nothing thing.
That's really all there is to it. Trying REALLY HARD not to think about the daily grind and focusing on nothing with the aid of something else (like music or imagining an empty room or whatever works for you) is all there is to it.
I've taken to doing this lately at night and, when I'm actually able to focus long enough to keep my head clear for a few minutes, I feel a hell of a lot better the next day.
Just try to step clear of all the spiritual stuff people are throwing at you that goes with the meditation (and stop thinking that you need to read a book or take classes to figure out how to do it) and you'll be just fine with Jesus. Trust me. If you did something that pissed off your god you'd probably know. Sitting in a room thinking about nothing shouldn't piss off Jesus. 4/14/2008 12:19:17 AM |

cator, if you go back and look at my threads, a myriad of which are real chit chat champs weighing in at 3 pages a pop I'm responsible for less than 10 percent of the posts in them. Whether you like it or not, and whether you accept it or not, there is a community of helpful and insightful people on here willing to share their knowledge and experiences to those asking for it. If you want to be entertained, there's a multitude of threads devoted to internet memes, trolling, and porn located above and below this very thread. Leave my threads for the people that consistently offer constructive anecdotes and advice.
Mindstorm, I appreciate that suggestion and for relating it to my concerns. I am definitely going to give that a shot.

There is nothing specifically religious about meditation. Certain religious sects are known for using it as a tool for getting in touch with their spirituality, but many Christians use meditation, as well. However, the scientific benefits of relieveing stress and improving quality of life have nothing to do with any spirituality, so it's a fantastic idea for anyone. It could also be used as personal prayer time, in order to meditate on God, or Jesus, or a saint, or whoever you feel comfortable talking to. I would personally recommend a guided meditation CD to start off with. Usually, these focus on the construction of an inner meditation space where you can go to clear your thoughts. Remember the somewhat silly "go to your cave" scenes from Fight Club? Like that. I've never done group meditation, so I'm not sure how well it would work with another person. Honestly, if I remember correctly, you can probably find some Christian meditation books and/or CDs if you check out some of the Christian book stores around here. It couldn't hurt to ask, at least. 4/14/2008 1:59:27 PM |
