SSII style soft top and door inserts...
Anyone have any experience or knowledge of these? I know taking the hardtop and doors off shouldn't be tough...do the door inserts just attach with a few bolts?
I've been wanting an early Bronco for a while, but they're so damned expensive. I'd like a Scout as much or more, but I like being able to pull the doors.
I wonder if the cost of the door inserts, soft doors, and soft top would be so much that I wouldn't really gain anything by going with the Scout over the Bronco...

parts for a scout are going to be way more expensive than for a bronco 4/15/2008 8:48:43 PM |

just like anything, aftermarket prices are the inverse of production numbers 4/15/2008 8:49:33 PM |

do you mean the curved type inserts that make them look jeepish? they just clip/bolt in with regular hardware and will fit the regular scout II's. you also might consider cutting down a set of factory doors that would still open/close. or, just keep the doors off. those inserts don't really serve any purpose imo except for looks and to provide a lip to keep stuff from falling out. i doubt the parts are cheap either if you get the doors, top, and all.
you can also modify/pin the factory doors so they can be pulled quickly. any soft top will seal to them.
consider 74-80 dodge ramchargers/plymouth traildusters as a cheaper alternative to eb's also. here's mine:

yep...i like the 70s Ramchargers/Traildusters, too...except that I'll want to either swap the full-time t-case out or put a part-time kit in it if I go that route.
i don't know about the parts cost, but EBs themselves are ricockulously expensive for what they are. I like them a lot for a variety of reasons (some looks/style, some practical/mechanical) but man, they cost a shit ton.
modifying/pinning the regular hard doors is an option i hadn't thought of. hmmm.
That Defender 90 is what I'd REAAALLY like, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay anywhere near that much for a crude truck, made in England, that I intend to beat on offroad. A 10-15 year old D90 might command the most absurd price of any vehicle I can think of.
