interesting how the Asian culture is reflected in their sports strengths

they are really good at sports that require rigorous attention to fixed standards (diving, for example)

and not so good at sports that involve a lot of creativity (soccer, say)

Why, because China's athletes trained in Beijing's smog and ours didn't?

the difference between America and the East is that in America we say

"If everyone else jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, what would you do?"

In Japan they say

"The nail that sticks out will be hammered."

"The noisey wheel gets the grease"

In Japan they say

"The nail that sticks out will be hammered."

Better comparison.
