I just figured out how to do this so now I'm doing it for all the sites I run/edit/host

For those who don't know, this basically refers to the small (16x16 pixel) icon that you upload to your webserver and it gets displayed on the link/address bar of your browser...kind of like the small wolf icon to the immediate left of the "http://..." in TWW's address (http://www.thewolfweb.com/favicon.ico)

you can create a 16x16 icon and upload it to your root directory, and just add a little *link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico"* (replace asterisks with less than / greater than signs) to your page's header

oh well i thought it was cool

[new] not because a thread has been made but because you could have posted omg you can use h1 to make huge bold headers! and we would have been equally impressed with this [new] concept.

no worries

it is a feature that some sites don't implement.

It's not that they think they more than you.

It's that a rabbit could figure out how to make a favicon if it wanted to. Did you really think you were telling people something they didn't know?

Had you never noticed the favicon on all other sites and not wondered how it was done, only to then google it and see how easy it is? Because everyone else who cared has already done this.

so maybe you can tell me, whats the point of tech talk? cause there are a lot more basic/dumb things that get asked about in tech talk than an html feature thats only been around a few years

when somebody a lot less technically savvy than me asks a question about how to get a printer working or install a router, do yall just make fun of them and tell them how dumb they are?

obviously you didn't learn html. you just learned how to write some plain text to the browser and were thrilled with yourself. If you had 'learned' html, you'd still be learning as [new] things such as favicon get implemented. Now if you had learned something more useful, such as "omg i just figured out how to get other elements on a page to appear above flash in all browsers" we'd be more impressed.

talk about piss poor analogies. If someone comes in here asking how to do something thats different than some dumbass pot head coming in here saying

"omg i installed a printer by myself...this model has only been around a few years so i didn't know how easy it was because back when i installed my first printer, driver CD's hadn't been implemented yet!"

iamges.google.com

yes the typo is correct

i bet if you bought this domain you would get lots and lots of hits

or maybe gogole.com?

i remember linux bought the domain 'microsfot.com' which seems pretty clever

any other similiar circumstances you guys know of?

a) favicon's have been around since IE5 (circa 2000)
b) how are you associated with web development and not noticed this feature yet?
(it's been around for 8 years)
c) yes, TWW's search is broken, has been for years, thank God there's Google

i just wonder how some of you act in real life when somebody asks you a question about computers...if you're a complete asshole to them like you are on tww, or if you actually take into consideration that everyone doesnt have the same expertise as you do...

Think of it this way treetwista: if someone came up to you and said, "Hey man! I just found about this new thing called a joint. A joint is created by rolling up cannabis, either manually or with a rolling machine into a cigarette-like product. Standard sized papers for joints are 70mm (standard size), 79mm (1 & 1/4 size) , and 110mm (1 & 1/2 size)!"

How would you react?

i still think yall are off on your analogies

rolling a joint = boldface, underline, italics, heading1, a href, img src, font, etc

favicon = maybe a gravity bong

ha, that makes sense.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm just kindly pointing out how silly this thread is. No harm intended.

Golovko is just being a flaming douchebag. He makes shitty flash sites, though, so I guess that gives him the right.

Phrases like these scream otherwise.

Dude, you posted something from the html for dummies handbook, acted like it was something that everyone would be interested in, and then got pissy when people called you out on it.

Man up, move on, and if it bothers you so much, stop making threads in TT.

It's not the end of the world.
