I currently have a Logitech DualShock or something...anyway it blows (D-pad unresponsive, sticks don't always work, button problems) and I want to buy a PC gamepad that will last and is easy to map for anything I may want to do with it.

Does anyone have a particularly exceptional gamepad they can recommend?

i have some type of logitech pads...they arent great or really made for cutting edge PC games, but they do work great on emulators that rely on button assignments as opposed to actual x and y stick control...dunno the model #

Hack an old Xbox controller.


It's easy, and probably the highest quality/cheapest you'll find.

I'm confused at this post. Why can't you just use an xbox 360 controller? Anything xbox also works on a computer (controllers, guitars etc). Go buy a 360 controller and it plugs right into your computer. Also it automatically works with all new games (all the buttons are preconfigured), just like it would on a 360.

We have three of those and they're probably the best pc controllers you can buy (aside from a wireless 360 ones). They've gotten great reviews over the years, and they're sturdy and i've never had a single problem with them.

^^ that is not what I have but I do have a logitech. I'm not 100% about the model because it is at home and I am at work. Not that it matters anymore, I've decided to take the old xbox controller path once I get home and find some USB cable to cut up.

Yeah for newer games I usually use the wireless 360 controller, but for emulation (mainly mariokart 64) i use 1 360 controller, and 3 logitech controllers. Although it seems that powering sliding is easier on the 360 controller because the joystick is in a more logical place than on a ps2/ps3 style controller. Like on a 360 controller your left thumb naturally slides to the right and left because of the location of the joystick, but on a ps2/ps3 style controller it's A LOT less natural moving your thumb perfectly left and right. You'll know what i mean if you try them one after another. I'm glad someone finally put the left joystick in a more intelligent spot.

i've just become a big fan of the 360 controllers. They are the best feeling controllers i've ever used. They fit perfectly in your hand and just feel very natural. ps2/ps3 style controllers have just always felt unnatural and clunky to me. They just don't fit your hands as well as 360 controllers.

I have some cheap Logitech gaming pad that I only use on emulators. It looks exactly like a PS1 controller in terms of button layout. You would probably want something more advanced though if you are playing more than just emulators.

i use my 360 controller, the wired one is some offbrand so it doesn't fit as well as wireless. Maybe I'll drop the dough on the little MS usb receiver.

the included batteries almost make it worth it

the main complaint seems to be the drivers, that the provided ones don't work AT ALL...downloading new ones from XFX seems to fix it, though

I had a couple Dual Shocks and they were complete pieces of shit. Then I bought a Logitech Rumblepad 2, which is basically the exact same controller, except it has vibration, and is MUCH better quality. No problems with it at all.
