I want someone to register for a class for summer I to hold a spot for me until I have my PIN (early next week).
Willing to give you 10 bucks or something to make it happen. This shouldn't be a big deal for anyone already taking classes. 4/24/2008 7:19:43 PM |

if you are a registered student for this semester, shouldn't you be able to just log into pack portal and get your PIN to register for summer classes now? 4/24/2008 8:13:37 PM |

I think you don't get authorized for your summer PIN until you get your PIN for fall, sometimes they're the same #, but still even if you are registered this semester until you go through your advisor/dept PIN process you can't register. Also, to the OP why is it so urgent now? Unless it's really close to full already and people change their minds or fail that class a lot, no one is else will be cleared to register until the incoming freshman class in August. Just wait. http://ncsu.edu/registrar/calendars/registrationfall.html 4/24/2008 8:22:39 PM |

Summer I classes start May 19th (@ 3 weeks). Over the past few days 1 seat has opened up on two separate occasions, otherwise it has been full. Over three weeks more people may drop... but I'd prefer a sure thing.
Why? Cutting in line isn't the fairest thing, but I don't about Paul Cousins worthy. And I mean, even if someone took the last spot, the wait list is there. When that spot opens... anyone on the wait list will get the spot instead of me.
This just stops someone who doesn't need this specific class from taking a spot in a class which I specifically need.

that's the point of having a waitlist
by doing this, you're effectively cutting in line
i'm pretty sure all the people on the waitlist for this class would have something to say about you doing so4/24/2008 9:29:55 PM |

maybe im missing something here, but wouldnt he only be gaining 1 spot in the waitlist? its not when you drop the class you get to pick who takes your place

if you need it so bad, why dont you have a pin yet?

If there is a waitlist and the guy you hire to hold your spot drops, YOU don't get the spot, the First person in the waitlist does. when somebody drops, that person does not choose who gets their spot.

^^Actually there's a way around that, and it sucks for those who rightfully should be in line before the other person. But until they change it I don't think many people know about it.

Long post...
nobody should get cheated here.
Right now there is one seat open. If someone registers knowing they will drop the class when I'm ready to regitser, it just guarantees that a single seat will open.
If there is nobody on the waitlist, I get the seat. If there are people on the waitlist, the top person will get the seat and I will be one spot closer on the waitlist.
I can't cut in line. The idea here is to ward off people who have the option of several classes this summer (I have the option of 2 and right now one of them has an open seat and the other has a waitlist). Hopefully they'll see this class as being full and will move on to their next choice instead of taking the seat I really need.
Basically, I need this class to graduate... and I have to have my degree by the middle of the summer. I didn't realize this was going to be the case until very recently or I would have signed up a long time ago.
I will not have my PIN until early next week. Long story, nothing I can do about that.
Like I said before, pm me if you're interested. This is not that big of a deal. It is not even a guarantee for me to get in. It will not stop anyone who really wants/needs the class from getting it before me. It just very slightly improves my odds over those who are choosing this class over other classes.

Read 6 posts above yours... you're not telling me anything I didn't already know.

Are you serious? Do you know what GERs are? I can't tell you how many classes I've taken I didn't specifically need (You know, because you typically get to choose from a group). So yeah, there will probably be quite a few people in there who don't need that specific course. This is actually a GER for me. But because of my work situation this is the only class that will fit my schedule. Like I said, if someone wants the course this will not stop them from getting it before me. It only helps with those who don't want to fuck around with waitlists. Anyone who waitlists the class before I register will get in before me.

Go to the teachers office, or show up first day and tell them you need this to gradumacate. Or go to the dean and tell him that and ask him really nicely. They will probably let you in. Or your advisor. And why dont you have your PIN? took em 1 day to get mine. 4/25/2008 8:52:55 AM |

You should talk to student services before you go and talk to your dean. 4/25/2008 9:37:56 AM |

Better yet, e-mail or call them before the class starts. If for whatever reason you absolutely can't get into the class, if you talk to your adviser/the department head, they should be able to come up with a substitute that will count. I got into one class that was full/for grad students and had two subbed during my last semester.4/25/2008 11:12:40 AM |

yeah, you have nothing to lose by talking to them directly and explaining your situation. 4/27/2008 3:10:43 AM |

Ass-umptions are awesome. Do you really think I haven't talked to the instructor already?
I imagine this won't be an issue after tomorrow. But lets keep this on topic. What I'm looking for is clear. Either you can do what I asked or not. Otherwise, I'm not interested in what you have to say. This is Classifieds, not the Lounge and definitely not Chit Chat. 4/27/2008 12:59:27 PM |
