I have busted a rear speaker in my 97 Saab. I am pretty sure its a 6x9. Whats the most economical way to replace or fix said speaker? Should I buy a new/used set online? Anyone in here selling factory speakers? Any audio sites with good deals?
Search function is busted still. 4/26/2008 8:14:40 PM |

Three options. 1. Replace with new/used factory speaker 2. Replace wtih generic speaker 3. Replace and upgrade with new speakers that are quality.
I assume you are running the factory Head Unit. New speakers are garunteed to sound better than what you have, especially if you upgrade. A $75+ set will make a big difference. YOu don't need to spend a lot for speakers, as you would need an amp to utilize them properly. 4/26/2008 9:11:41 PM |

Quote : | "The rear speaker positions can just about take the common 6x9 inch size, but you should check the exact size, since my 16x9 speakers needed the hole enlarging by a little. This is quite a large speaker and you should be able to get good bass from a speaker of this size. There are several options for placing speakers here.
* 6x9 mid/bass units: If you like the sound to appear to be coming from the front of the car then fitting just mid/bass units in the back will add extra bass but leave the sound stage firmly placed in the front of the car. This is my preference although this kind of speaker is not that common in 6x9 (you would usually use much larger round speakers in custom made holes on a strengthened rear shelf), but you can always buy 6x9 multi way speakers and cut the wire to the tweeter/midrange driver. * 6x9 multi way speakers: If you like a full range sound from the back of the car as well as the front then these can be fitted into the rear positions, a company like Pioneer will have several models from 100W to 250W. I would recommend at least a separate tweeter rather than dual cone units which are not much different to what is fitted at the factory. I am not convinced of the advantage of more than two drivers, some 6x9 units even have four drivers (2 tweeters, midrange and woofer) in one unit. " |

Anything specific I should focus on when browsing these speakers today? I would like more bass, but don't think I am going to put in a amp/small sub or anything at the moment. Mid/bass speakers ftw?4/27/2008 12:35:49 PM |

^ Seconded. Google for coupons for their site, too. Can usually find stuff that'll give you free shipping or a free $50 gift card or something. I did this and saved another $75 when I upgraded my car stereo a while back.
Plus, it's not walmart, so what you're buying is a little less sketch. Look for a pair of infinity speakers for $75, you'll probably enjoy those as a replacement. 4/27/2008 2:35:13 PM |

yeah, you can get a halfway decent pair of 6x9s for dirt cheap, and it should be very easy to install. 4/27/2008 2:38:53 PM |

The man at Crutchfield recommended the JBL due to the height (above the speaker) space of roughly a half inch in the Saab. Before i put this order through, anyone have any recommendations for another brand or speaker?
