Because I think the jump to 20 from the teens is a lot more significant than say to 10 from 8 and 9, or 30 from late 20's, or 40 from late 30's. A lot more is at stake, and there is a lot more to be had in the very near future as opposed to the other jumps.

^ what I really meant by that post is the transition from your teens into your 20's, and what happens over the course of those years. In the years from 19 to 29, you could be married, graduated from school, and well on your way through a career. You might even have a couple of kids. There just seems to be a shitload of life changing events that can happen during that time, and the jump to the 30's from the 20's doesn't really have all of that as a new thing.

I agree with parentcanpay, but for different reasons. When you're a teen, you're expected to start acting like an adult, but you at least have the excuse of going through puberty when you fuck up. You can at least fall back on chalking it up to growing pains or other. But once you're 20/21, you don't have that defense anymore. Suddenly you're expected to unconditionally be wiser and more mature. And making the jump to going through the rest of life without that safety net is a huge jump to make for some people. For me it wasn't that great of an ordeal, but some people have real trouble adjusting.

growing up does suck when 10 years ago you really didn't have responsibilities and life was simple and easy. Of course, now I can vote and drink, but at some times shit seems too damn complex and overbearing.

Many a day goes by when I wish I could go back to being a kid and let the adults around me worry about everything for me. Some days I'd rather bitch about having a bed time and not getting to watch "cool" stuff on tv than have to constantly worry about all the shit I have to keep track of.

I didn't think i ever wanted to "grow up" or graduate until this semester. Working 30-40 hours while getting railed in the ass by 400-level engineering classes is not a very fun way to finish up school. Over previous years i did either/or never both with the exception of summer 05.
