what field of work are you going into?
the business minor is made up of pretty general classes, but id go w/ finance, information systems, and then either marketing/operations. youll get a decent overview, but if you want to learn anything of real applicable value that translates to developing actual skills, youd have to take higher up classes in a certain field within the business concentrations. 5/4/2008 10:23:56 PM |

if you're gonna do business, might as well make it a major. It's really only like 12 credits more. Plus, I think it has a lot more pre-reqs than other minors do.
I personally think do a GC minor and then go work and come back to get your MBA sounds like the best plan. GC classes are not only easy, but they're fun and pertain to your field of study more. 5/5/2008 7:50:44 AM |

I would skip the minor and take BUS225 with sloan, intro to personal finance. You'll learn more applicable information for life in that class than you will in a business management minor imo. 5/5/2008 12:47:22 PM |

i completely disagree with that....i mean yeah, you learn a few good tips...just seems like a minor is more noteworthy than that class 5/5/2008 2:13:14 PM |

it might be more "noteworthy" on a resume but as far as stuff you can actually apply to the real world i feel like most of those basic business classes are just a huge waste of time...this coming from a business major 5/5/2008 3:01:46 PM |

A lot of MBA programs are just general business classes, so I think it would probably make more sense to just wait a few years and do that instead. Especially if you can get an employer to pay for it.
Do take BUS 225 w/ Sloan though.5/5/2008 3:33:45 PM |

i struggled with sloan, but finance isn't my forte'...
you can take BUS 360-601 online through DE and it's not extremely demanding...i grade most things in there too and try to have a pretty fast turnaround. 5/7/2008 11:58:09 AM |

I did BUS as a minor. Took Marketing, Finance, Operations, both ACC (managerial and financial) and IS.
I'm glad I did it, because it made my MBA program shorter as I didn't have to take the prereqs and the materials is less overwhelming. Plus it's a good base of knowledge for what ever industry you get into. If you can get the classes I'd recommend it over GC personally...
