does anyone else do this?

same idea as the playoff beards that hockey players grow. i shave the weekend before exams start and i don't shave until my last exam is over. this is the only time that i go this long without shaving. otherwise it's only about 3 days max. i've done it during all four of the exam periods that i've been at state.

I do something similar, I don't shave once I started studying for a class. Kind of superstitious a la playoff hockey beards. BTW I love how Edge shaving gel is sponsoring the playoffs.

there's a tradition in the Math Department whereby everybody grows a "Qualifier Beard" before taking qualifying exams...then everyone goes to a keg party and shaves

I've grown them on boats, during finals, leading up to a heavy pressure critique, for the hell of it, because the woman was away on a trip, and for the hell of it.

btw, on the the ocean, sailing a 34-45 ft'er it makes sense not to shave. Spray is a bitch on a freshly shaven face. Plus, the waves make sharp things not so fun.

Interesting idea. (Not that I'm a student anymore, at least not full-time...) Longest I can remember going without shaving is about 6 days. Starts to look pretty stupid at that point, b/c while I can grow a mustache and goatee, I have a couple of patches that just don't grow hair that prevent me from rocking the full beard. They're not very noticeable when it's just stubble, but with several days' growth they start to stand out.

Yeah the itch is a bitch, I get a full beard in about 4 days (18 hours after shaving I techinically have a beard). I have to go another 10 days beyond the 4 days before the itch stops.

For the most part I'm hairless in other spots.

We used to do exam shirts. Draw whatever you wanted to commemorate the semester on the front, write your exams on the back, and wear it from the first day of exams through your last exam. You slept in it, you worked out in it, you went to exams in it. You could take it off to shower, but that was about it.

I still have all 8.

maybe you do keep it, like i did. but exam time gives some people an excuse to grow one or push through the itchy/creepy phase that a lot of people have a hard time getting passed.

i keep a beard most of the year, but i still shave my neck and upper cheeks and keep the beard length trimmed back. for exams i stop all that and just get all lumberjacky.

also, i usually shave immediately after my last exam, but i forgot my shaving stuff in goldsboro, so it'll be an itchy ride home.
