Anyone else happy that the new car is slightly smaller and 200lbs lighter??

350hp sounds pretty damn good too. If they don't raise the price that much you can't ignore this car (even if the looks are almost identical to the current model)

is it me or those cars just don't perform for the power they have? even previous model with 306hp didn't perform anything special. new 335i with same power and more weight is blowing its door all day long. why?

no torque in a heavy car.

if your car is a pig you need torque.

if your car is light you don't

At the risk of getting philosophical, I'm more and more conviced that performance is all in your head. It's all about expectations. My friend's dad had a Porsche 914 back in the 70's. He though that thing was a rocket... and they ran like high 16's(?). His brother had an Olds 442 which I believe was a mid to high 14 second car stock--nothing special today. I tried to explain to my friend's dad that V6 Camry's can keep up with that these days and he was incredulous. Also, was it somebody here who was talking about handling tests between modern minivans and 60s 2 seater sports cars, which were losing left and right?

Back in the 80's, a Porsche 928 had ~300hp (depending on the year) and ran similar to a 350Z and people really thought those things were fast. When I was 18 I drove a brand new (at the time) 2004 WRX, and I thought that thing was some kind of Enzo or something. I just drove one a week ago and it felt really laggy with very little topend. And the examples continue...

Face it man, 12's are the new 14's.

^agreed.

Besides, the 350Z with 306hp can run in the 13s all day.

It also helps that the BMW's engine is QUITE underrated

a big fat MEH to those headlights.. they dont look good at all to me. the fangs? it could be worse, but those look a little over the top as well. overall it looks like the same car/chassis with cosmetic changes (thank god for -200# +44hp though). regardless, i just cannot overlook those fugly lights.

Those headlights look good on the Maxima, but for some reason, not on the Z.

^^

I bet the Dodge Ram SRT-10 handles better than the 350Z. And the 450 hp F150... forgot what it is called.

^^^Joel you've pwnt nothing, and nobody.

Put them both on a track and the 350Z will win every time. Just b/c it can pull 0.9 on a skidpad doesn't mean it has superior handling.

I'll see if I can find lane change and slalom speeds/times for both.

200 pounds lighter, huh?

so it's...less of a huge bitch!

still, it's now knocking on the door of a reasonable weight for a sports car, and I could possibly, maybe get interested in one. i'm also impressed that Nissan bucked the seemingly nonstop trend for every manufacturer to make every car bigger and heavier than the last (with the C6 Vette and the MR-2 Spyder being exceptions that come to mind).

I've seen idiots on other forums suggesting that the new 350Z will be close to the performance of the LS3 Corvette. Bunch of morons I tell ya

i was just joking, i thought that was clear by my suburban on 24's comment.

i had actually read that same thing about them using the 350z as a target. i never followed up on it though, someone post the other numbers.

emphasized rear haunches as per usual, i like
fangs look slightly less aggressive, i like
headlights.. why? (nothing new)
and the roof line at the top of the window looks gt-rish, which is a bit expected for a tie in to nissan's supercar. i'll give the looks a 7/10. 8/10 to swap those lights out ha

I think after the initial shock of the indian arrowhead headlights they are growing on me a little. I now find them... acceptable. Not like the Z32 300zx headlights, which were my favorite of all the Z's (94ish 300zx TT with the later spoiler is my favorite Z looks-wise).

Oh, I misread that then. Thats good. Just the same, isn't the 370Z gonna be considerably more than the outgoing 350Z. IMO they need to keep the base under $30k.

^^ well i am sure they are pretty smart... so they will not increase the price by a lot. maybe by a grand or so.

^ yes, they have, however, i am still partial to the looks of the 300ZX Twin Turbo. (and the other 3 TT'ed japanese cars of that time)
