It's been getting very terrible reviews, I would stay far far away from it.

^it hasn't gotten "terrible" reviews. More like B-(1up), 7/10(voodoo), 6.5/10(gamespot), etc... The biggest issues have been control issues with the computer, but that is solved by using the xbox 360 controller on the pc. I still have yet to play it, but when i get some free time i'll give it a shot.

Quote :
"It really is a shame because, this particular aspect of design stupidity aside, Alone in the Dark really does deserve the somewhat overused accolade of ‘flawed masterpiece’. Sure, its plot is hugely contrived, it’s occasionally frustrating and really lacking in the kind of polish we expect from big-name games in this day and age. However, it’s also undoubtedly one of the most imaginative, ambitious and exciting titles to hit a console in the last few years. It’s frequently astonishing in its approach to oft-used action tropes and genuinely progresses a whole host of well-worn conventions in the process. Up until that point, we were more than happy to offer our recommendation to anyone that appreciates gaming innovation as long as potential players were prepared to endure its occasional experimental failures alongside its many successes. In fact, that’s still pretty much true, although the recommendation is tougher to justify. Ultimately, in 2008, the most terrifying thing in an action horror title really shouldn’t be the resurrection of long-since abandoned game contrivances. Unfortunately, with Alone in the Dark, it is.

meh. i'll still play it. everyone says it's great until a certain point.

^That's the UK rating. IGN US gave it a 3.5/10 (Bad) and IGN AU gave it a 5/10 (Mediocre).

I'd be interested to know how it is from an average person's point of view though, so be sure to report back to us.

If those control issues are solved by using the xb360 controller on a pc, it begs the question of why the controls are being blasted on the 360 itself. Something doesn't add up.
