this plant was beautiful and healthy until it got left out in the cold overnight, then most of it died and i replanted the parts that were still alive. someone gave it to me and didn't tell me what it is, when it was pretty, it had lots of purple leaves and was vine-like, kind of like ivy. can someone please identify this so i can look up how to take care of it? i know it's tropical and that's about it... kthxu

I'm gonna bet it's a Tradescantia of some variety or another. The most common common name is "wandering Jew."

It'll probably recover with lots of warm sunlight, but it'll take a while. You can also take a cutting, stick it in some water, and regenerate a new plant.
