"oem" and "for system builders" in relation to software, specifically operating systems?

other than oem doesnt come in original or retail packaging or whatever

"for system builders"- same sh!t, different package, and no support?

oem- same sh!t, different package, no support?


or is there a difference in the software?

it's the same thing, only if you call it "for system builders" then people stop asking you what OEM stands for.

^ ah... one of those things.

so say i had this friend who wanted to install a 64 bit vista home premium "for system builders" version on a still-in-the-works build and i.... i mean he, has only installed osystems a couple of times using the reinstallation cd that came with the pc. would i tell him to go for it its not hard you can figure it out its pretty much the same or.. save your money to get a retail?

with as many people that use computers, every problem is bound to have a solution somewhere on the internet

why bother with support from ms?

it's exactly the same as the retail version

except the oem/SB edition was meant to be purchased by OEMs and preinstalled on end user machines

it installs the exact same way, the only difference is the keys aren't interchangable
