I just saw that Civilization will be coming out on the xbox360! This has lots of potential especially with Xbox LIVE!

sweet! Although because of the multiplayer I'd stick to the Xbox360. Unless of course PSN gets its long over due upgrade by the time they release this game. I just hope it won't be a shitty port like the rest of the cross platform games.

It sounds interesting. I just don't know how well Civilization will be on a console.

this is not new news,

but I am still super hyped about it

theyve pushed back the release date a few times now, most recently from june 3 to july 7.

the versus matches look like theyll be pretty fun, and supposedly going to have a new scenario released each week, with contests to see who can achieve the highest scores on it, with unspecified prizes : )

wikipedia has a link for it as well

for many reasons, two of which i'll list here as they're the biggest problems with the pitched game thus far

1. they're pitching it as hour long games...for anyone who has played civ, you know that an hour is no time at all...most multiplayer games i play on the computer last anywhere from 6-10 hours over multiple days
2. they've dumbed down units...if you look at the info out there, they're doing things like autoupgrades...that means you no longer can choose if you want that maceman to get a drill, combat, medic, etc upgrade...they just give you whatever

it's clear that it's another game getting dumbed down to reach a different audience...which is fine for the company and they probably should do. but as someone who always has at least one game of civ going on the PC with friends (i think right now I'm in a 4v4, a 2v2v2, and a 3v3), this dumbed down console version has absolutely nothing to offer and instead takes away a lot of what makes civ...there is no evolution of the series here.

and i don't care for the big screen...i already play my Civ on a 50" HDTV

i found civ alright, but i wasnt interested in playing 6-10 hour long games. ill be actually checking this out, not because im a dumb console gamer, but because i didnt have an interest in the time investment that was there before.

i understand that. i know ppl who were into it, but i still lose interest in a game that long.

i find the same is true for most board games. try to get someone to play axis and allies versus something much shorter. you'll find you have an easier time playing the shorter game. not only is it more accessible, but people like a faster turnaround in general.

I loved all of them until IV... hated it.

Not sure why but it held my interest for literally 5 minutes. Maybe because it was so much different from the previous ones and I dont have the desire/interest to learn a complicated game anymore, I dont know, but hated it

downloaded the demo for the PS3. Its pretty fun for a Civ game that you can play on the big screen. Kind of has the feel of "Sid Meier's Pirates" as far as visuals go (but improved of course)

Have they ever been able to make a strategy game playable on a console?

Played the PS3 demo tonight...hooked me just like every other Civ game has. I think they translated the feel pretty well for consoles.

^^command and conquer in my opinion anyway, was so much more fun on xbox360 than on PC because of the controls.

What I'm really stocked for is tom clancy's end war. That shit looks awesome because you can play the whole game with voice commands.

Looks like they're redoing Colonization.

^took me 3 days to download it. I left my ps3 on when I went to the beach and came back the next day....for some reason the PS3 decided to just stop all downloads.

^I'm pretty sure its because its a demo. I would be surprised if they didn't add the select your world options like all civs have had.

anyone else pick this game up? Its pretty fun...i mean its not a full blown civ game by any means but it is a good console port that allows you to get in quick games (quick is relative compared to an actual epic civ game)

I played the mess out of Civ II on my old desktop back in the 90's and am currently playing the mess out of this one on my 360.

The replay value of this thing is just so damned high.

Yaah thanks for BTTT'ing this Spookyjon

I bought it, it's a lot of fun! But I'm slowly learning that my Civ4/Civ3 style of play just doesn't work well in this game. It's REALLY about FAST, aggressive play.

They removed all the penalties from Civ4, so you no longer have to worry about the details or drawbacks of rushing, expansion, maintenance, et al.

Anyone want to try a game online?

Anyone else still playing this game? I picked it up a week or so ago and I now I am hooked...I've been playing some online with my brother, and it is definitely more fun to play with humans than the dumb computer.

the only problem with online play is that because games are so long, chances are someone will drop at some point.
