Yeah, and as time passes you will enter her in every little fucking pageant chasing after that measly grand price at the cost of a normal childhood.

I seen it on the TV.

this shit will not end well.

if you put her in beauty pageants, i hope she grows up to kill you. those kids always look so sad. stop whoring your child for money and just save up like normal peopke. 5k isnt even enough for more than a year anyways and hell, I could save 5k up in a year pretty easily and i make less than 40k/year gross (coop!).

by the time she's old enough to go to college, you're gonna be forking out roughly $150k/4 years in state and $320k/4 years out of state.

whore hard or go home

^ how exactly does that make any sense? i ended up paying 11k/year for state with room and board. if you take into account 3% inflation/yr, that only makes it about 17k/year for the same, which is still under 70k/4 years.

well, the cost of tuition and other expenses are increasing faster than inflation, but I still don't know where that $150k figure came from.

EDIT: i don't think men's health is what one would call a reliable source in terms of projecting the cost of a college education.

they had some figure in this month's magazine with some source credited (magazine is at home- I'm at work). I did find this on their website, although it offers little to back up my post in question:

Quote :
"Your kids go to college
When it comes time to pick a school, keep in mind that "unless your child is going into something like law or medicine, the college he attends will not have a huge impact on his life earnings," says Brokamp. "A teacher who graduates from Harvard with $100,000 of student loans is not going to be paid significantly more than a teacher who went to community college. So think hard about taking on a lot of debt for a private school."

Also realize that a college education has a sticker price that works like a new car's. The university will settle for much less. "At the average private school, the tuition discount rate is about one-third. This means the average student going in, because of need-based and merit scholarships, pays one-third less," says Kaplan, who graduated with a "free" economics degree from Harvard after raising $90,000 in grants and scholarships. "So never rule out a school because of price."

Even after your child is accepted and has a financial package, don't consider the deal closed. Kaplan says it's possible to increase your aid by appealing to the financial-aid officer's "professional judgment." This refers to the discretion he or she has to award additional money for special family circumstances: high medical expenses, elder care, tuition for other kids in private elementary or high school, highly variable income. "If the need is documented well," says Kaplan, "one out of two cases receives additional money." "

Yeah college is going to be expensive, that is why we are saving now. Every bit helps.

Virginia schools just raised tuition some 10-11% across the board

Makes me glad to be done with undergrad, and happy I am finishing my masters in Dec.

my cousin's mom put her in a pageant when she was like, 4... i remember being 10, sitting on the floor of south hills mall thinking "this is the most ghetto/awful/retarded thing i've ever seen" then i secretly wished she wouldn't win anything, just so her mom wouldn't enter her in another one. she was adorable, but didn't win anything, so we went out for pizza and then at granny's house we got into some major trouble for shenanigans with hot sauce and a steak knife. that was a fun day.

Aww! What a cutie! And what is going on with all the "unique"/WEIRD spellings of children's name!? I see 'Cameron' spelled 3 different ways! That's my brother's name, btw.
