i remember when we beat duke that year in greensboro. i was sitting there with my dad when we were down like 27-5 and i said "we're going to win this game." whoever heard me say that in our section started laughing.

Actually he came out for 2 minutes one time. At a welcoming party for Sidney Lowe held at the McKimmon Center, Lowe was talking about his staff and came to Gainey and said (and I'm paraphrasing here) "this fellow played every minute of every game in an ACC Tournament. Did I get that right," (looking over and asking Gainey), and Gainey said, "actually I came out for about 2 minutes in one game."

Still pretty amazing what he did. We've been so close (ACCCG) to winning it so many times since V left. It's been torture going through that, especially the Redick game. That has to be one of the biggest let downs I've ever felt after a game, and I was only a freshman or sophmore at that point, so you know I've had many let downs as a student and alum after that.
