So I am watching the sportscenter express today, and the stories were:

Spygate, and something about another Patriot assistant lying about it. Barry Bonds and his federal charges, a 5th person charged with the killing of Shawn Taylor, the LSU QB being thrown off the team and the scholarship offers he is now getting, and the OJ Mayo story. It seems like 75% of sports stories these days are negative, whether it be steroids or cheating etc. So it has me wondering, are sports just going into the shitter, or does the media just eat up these negative stories and force them on us?

I feel like the media in sports is just unbelievably negative, but maybe that is just the current state of athletics. Either way, all this negativity around sports is becoming depressing. I remember when I could just watch sportscenter and get an hour of stats and highlights and feel good about life.

It's not just sports, it's news and media in general. For some reason people like watching that bullshit. They wouldn't run it if it didn't increase ratings. Blood, guts, and scandal sells.

I feel you, though. I can't hardly watch ESPN anymore because it's rarely about just plain sports anymore.

NFL season is insufferable too.

How can Perrilloux receive a scholarship if he is going to be playing DII?

I can think of dozens of stories off-hand that are positive but have received little or no national coverage... Here are a couple from just the last week

1. HS baseball player throws a perfect game and hits for the cycle in the same game
2. Texas HS girl (individual) wins State TEAM championship in track and field (crazy)
3. UCLA wins women's water polo championship for fourth year in a row, 12 of the players on the team are already gold medalists

I've got to be honest, when I first clicked on this thread I thought this would be about how much we suck in general right now and how we can get rid of Lee Fowler.

I could have easily made the ncsu athletics thread, that is just as depressing as athletics in general these days, but that thread has been made already.

DII can give athletic scholarships. DIII can't. I didn't see the story though it just said "Perrilloux receiving offers" and I thought, good, he should be rewarded.

I just had to make this thread for theraputic reasons. I just remember when no matter how shitty the world was, sports were always upbeat and an escape from a shitty day or a stressful time. Now watching espn when I wake up puts me into a state of depression to start the day. I don't like Tom Brady very much, but he was spot on when he said that "ESPN is now the MTV of sports"(something along those lines). Hate Tom Brady all you want, but damn is it true.

I was actually watching SC this morning so I know where you're coming from.

ESPN announced yesterday (I think) that they will be running SC live for 9 hours straight now. Guess they are trying to break stories at the same time as the blogs. I would bet my life that they will have a team of at least two people researching various blogs during the day, then trying to corroborate sources, etc.

i mean probably, if they constantly have good sources and are fast..

not counting the smaller, high school or rare stories, whatever you want to categorize those stories as, if a game isn't exciting or the news is just stuff about contracts, those get kind of boring after awhile.. and i have no idea why they are extending SportsCenter.. they already rerun special features as much as possible on the ones they have now

Looks like Perrilloux got his scholarship at Jacksonville St......

Quote :
"He'll have a clear shot at the Jacksonville State starting job. The Gamecocks' 2007 starter, Cedric Johnson, was kicked off the team after the season for violating team rules."

Is there a more uplifting story then a guy getting kicked off his team and then getting another chance at a different team who just kicked their qb off the team?
