okay, well since apparently my econ stimulus check thread belongs in chit chat, we can at least continue the SPORTS related subject of dog racing here. as i mentioned in the other thread, that's probably what i'm going to be putting my money on here soon. i've got my eye on a dog in south florida that i think could be a money maker.

those of you that have done this before, give the rest of us some tips, what to look for in the dogs, times that are good, differences in track surfaces, etc. thanks!

dang ivan, if i would have known you were into this i would have given you a look at our dog before we sold her.

its a pretty competitive sport. i want to say similar to horse racing but not really. you've gotta understand, there is a lot of training that goes into this. dogs dont have the attention span a horse does. just because the dog is fast doesnt mean it can "stay on track".

this is a good sport to get into, a lot less expensive than horse racing. the stuff you see on TV can be true, about the owners abandoning dogs that lose a race. if you are lucky, you can get one that is "retire" (if you wanna call it that) and breed new life into it. typically, dogs will retire around 5-6 years old. some will breed (if they are top finishers).

see, these dogs are made for quick, short races. to compare it to cars, which i know you like, they accelerate off the line like an AWD drag car.

some close tracks are in FL or WV. not much action going on here, so that is why you need some travel expenses to get around.

man i can go days and days about these races with you. its funny. with my automotive racing background i find it fun as hell to tweak these dogs.

^^lol, tweak dogs. i just had a mental image of a greyhound on drugs. seriously though, good post. could you give some more insight into the betting side of things? i'm not so much interested in buying one as i am finding and entertaining way to either blow or expand my check from the gub-ment.

i'd love to make it to a track, but if i can't what are some good online venues for this? possibly with live feeds of the action or something?

If you arent around the dogs a lot its kind of hard, but my dad always told me if one of the favorites or better dogs is on the small side and is located outside on the gate then go with them, if inside, avoid them... if the dog is favored and a bigger dog then being inside doesnt matter as much and might even help.


Big thing to remember is they dont have humans guiding them so they revert back to their basic instinct so the outside dogs will cut a path over to the inside immediately to get to the rabbit, so if they are really fast they can cut over and be ahead of the inside dogs

good info. so, would that lead you to bet on an inside dog or outside? or do you even know how they're going to be lined up before it starts?

also, what other forms of dog racing are there? what about the agility trials stuff? can you bet on it?

yes, you know where they will line up before hand

if you are interested in betting on a dog and he is small and lined up inside then I would think twice cause he will get bumped coming out of the gate.

I love little fast fuckers lined up on the outside that have raced a lot, they know exactly where they are heading as soon as the gate opens but dont have a lot of mutts around them
